The morning sun slowly lit up the sky. Talon looked out his window thinking about the journey that lies ahead. Last night before they went to bed, Martha traced a path on a map that would take him to the mountain. She has explained to him that it may be dangerous so he needs to be ready to defend himself.
"Are you ready?" Martha asked as she slowly walked into the room
"As ready as I'll ever be." Talon replied
They walked out the door together and Martha hugged Talon tight.
"Be careful." She whispered in his ear
"I always am." Talon said almost in a jokingly manner
Talon walked forward and turned back to wave goodbye. He made that goodbye count. For he does not know what lies ahead. That could be the last time he ever saw his sister.
Talon pulled out the map his sister made him. It said he first had to walk west through the meadow. Talon turned around and around looking at the sun's position trying to figure out which way was west. Right now he was really wishing he had brought a compass. He guessed which way was west and kept walking.
This was a beautiful meadow with long green grass. The only problem was that there was no trees. And that meant no shade. Talon walked for a few hours then slumped down in the grass completely exhausted. He wondered if he had gone the wrong way.
Talon woke up from the sound of somebody walking in the tall grass. He got up and looked to his right to see a figure in a black cloak moving towards him. Talon pulled out a small dagger Martha had put in his bag.
"Why are you pointing a dagger at me friend?" The figure asked. Talon assumed it was a he for it had a deep strong voice.
"I am not your friend! Who are you?" Talon demanded
"I mean no harm. I am just here to help you." The figure said calmly
"Why would you help me?" Talon asked
"That's what friends are for." The figure replied
"You are no friend of mine!" Talon yelled
Talon's blood ran faster through his veins. He could feel his blood boiling beneath his skin. Before he could do anything about it flames shot out from his fingertips sending him spiraling in the air. The flames hit the figure and he fell to the ground.
"Your going to wish you hadn't done that boy!" The figure said the anger clearly audible in his voice
"I-I didn't mean to! I can't control it!" Talon pleaded
"That's what they all say before..." the figure bit his tongue trying to remember why he was here
"Before what?" Talon nervously asked
The figure reluctantly answered, "Before I kill them."
