One night, a little bit after the screaming started, I heard my mom talking. She was saying "No don't take him what about our baby" (she also said some other stuff that I'm not going to repeat). Then she started screaming but woke up. I had to rush back to my bed and pretend to be asleep because she came to check on me. I'm assuming she doesn't want me to have heard her but it was to late now.

After she went back to bed I sat there and thought about what I had heard. I didn't fall asleep 'till 2 a.m. so I got about 4 hours of sleep and if you've never seen a teenage girl who hasn't gotten enough sleep you're lucky.

My mom had to wake me up which is rare (kinda) but today she threatened to dump water on me because I wouldn't get up and that is not happening again (yes she's done it before). So I got up and threw something on, it's not like anybody would see me besides my mom, but, I was wrong. Today after I got up I was eating my cereal (special K) and there was a knock on the door. Me and my mom both looked up and it went silent. A boy said "hello" my mom was just like, what! (Maybe that was me) I got up to go change out a pair of stained jeans and a shirt I've had since forever. I got outta my jeans when I heard the door open. I wiggled into a clean(er) pair and threw on an oversized red sweatshirt and ran out in my cheetah print slippers. I had just finished taking a shower so my hair was in a towel and there was the cutest boy I've ever seen (or only). My mom said this was Tobias. I fainted (or at least I wish I did) then I stuttered out "ma-my name i-is Riley." I haven't seen anybody else in person, just my mom. He said "I like that name," then some of them told us to go eat breakfast while they talk to my mom.

As soon as the door was closed I went back over to it to eavesdrop. He sat down and poured himself some of My cereal. I went right over to him and took it out of his hands. At least I wanted to but he was hot and I was busy trying to eavesdrop. I couldn't hear a thing. He said "It's no use they're already gone." I said "No they're just talking to her." "Come on I'll show you." He took me out of the kitchen and to the door.

It was closed and my mother wasn't in sight. Under my breath I said "No, it can't be."

I put my head in my hands and went and curled up on the couch. He covered me up with a blanket and sat down next to me. After about 5 minutes I said "Where are they taking her." "I don't know. The same thing happened to both my parents a couple days ago. Except instead of leaving me there they brought me here." "Wow. Why are they doing this." "I don't know." "How are we going to survive." "They probably have a plan for us. Maybe work? School's already ended so we have more time to work." "We should check how many points we have." "Sure."

After we had that conversation we went to check our points. Last time I checked I had 50, plus the 10 I made yesterday. He said he had about 60 too. We checked and we both had 200! (I now know 1 point is about a dollar) The points will really help us to get food but just then we heard a thunk in the kitchen (anytime we buy things it gets shipped down a tube). We went in to see what we got. Somebody bought us a whole bunch of food. There was a note there for each of us mine said (in my mom's amazing handwriting I am soo jealous of).

Riley,

Sorry this had to happen. This is probably good bye so

I'll try to get to everything. This is what the screaming

you heard was. People struggling and getting hurt. If you

ever get the chance GET OUT! No matter what, you and

Claire's son need to escape. No matter what do Not worry

about me, I'll be fine. People are planning an escape, they'll

open the door on June 13, go with them, they'll take care of

you. Be ready, the door will open at around midnight. Only

take stuff you need and don't let them know you have

anything you don't (need). I have to go now. Bye.

                                                                                                   Love,

                                                                                                            Mom

I started crying (she knows me too well "don't let them know you have anything you don't need") but I could still understand what it said, there was a tear on the 13 though. I asked Tobias what his note said. He said it just said goodbye then he asked me what mine said. "Um...the same thing, just goodbye," then I sighed.

I put the food away while he finished his(my) cereal. I dumped mine because it was soggy (yuck). I then told him it was my cereal and this is the only time he's getting any. Then I grabbed myself a granola bar to eat while I went to my mom's room. He ignored me the rest of the day and I ignored him. It was only June 3rd so I still had 10 days. At 8:00 he asked me where he should sleep. I replied with "sleep on the floor for all I care." I then went and locked my mom's door, he was Not sleeping in there. I went in my room and locked the door, I didn't want him coming in here either. I turned the lights off and my lamp on. I got out a book my mom had given me for my birthday (November 12) she told me not to read it till she was gone (I didn't know what it meant then). I fell asleep with the book open to page 1. I couldn't read it, it was too soon, I cried myself to sleep. Apparently I didn't lock the door because Tobias came in to comfort me. I fell asleep in his arms but I felt him leave and he locked the door behind him.

See ya,

Riley
