Hopelessly displeased, I slump over the keys of the grand organ, the sounds of thunderous notes echoing within the chambers of the opera underground. "How dare she!" I burst through the grinds of my teeth, "How could she be so selfish, so..."
My words are silenced by the sounds of distance footsteps, pacing steadily down the many wet cobblestoned stairs. From within these great hallways, I hear it cry "Wait, please!" its voice faint, almost ghostly though light and fresh like a rose in summer. It is the voice of Christine.
"You have no place here!" I belt, though the sounds of her heals against the stone proceed to tap like waterdrops against a window. I raise myself, pounding my firsts firmly against the keys, sending a deep deafening sound through the walls and floor, enough to make poor Christine quiver.
As she emerges completely out of breath, her dress torn and wet, she peers frightfully into my masked gaze. Her expression appears courageous, unaffected by fear, but her glazed eyes tell me that she is afraid. She should be. Our silence meets as we blankly gaze at one another from across the hall, jaws clenched, eyes burning; her hands shaking. The sound of dripping droplets from the many pools and damp leaks of the underground is the only sound that remains, though I am not disturbed, in fact I enjoy witnessing the fear that the stillness conjures within Christine. I can tell she is afraid of me. I am pleased.
As I glide away from the organ, I begin to move slowly towards her. She shuffles her dress away from me as I wrap my arm around her fitted torso, whilst my other leans heavily against the wall. She breathes sharply and closes her eyes. "Master I am sorry..."
"Sorry!" I interrupt, though the sound of her delicate whispers and the touch of her skin has already made me forgive her deceitful actions, but I can't seem to control my temper. My only response is too yell to shout, though what I really want is to hold, to caress her warmness with my cold lips, to cool her flushed body with my icy hands, to soothe her of all her troubles and worries. Yet, I continue to yell. "Sorry doesn't take back tonight's performance! You were a disgrace, a lying Delilah, a viper! Have you not learnt anything from my teachings child? Speak!"
