As the darkness continued to cover the sky, I pulled up to my best friend's house and parked pretty crookedly, per usual. I sit and think for a little while the overheard lights still shine throughout the sedan until they dim and I come to my senses. The key is swiftly removed from the ignition and there's a heavy wave of silence.
How do I always end up here?
My cold hand grabs ahold of my backpack and then the door as I get out of my car. Looking up, my eyes catch sight of the dark grey sky with scattered clouds... kind of how my mind feels right about now. My hand closes the door and I make my way up to her front porch. Before I even got the chance, the tall wooden entrance to her home opened and I was immediately engulfed in her arms, making my mind clear of any previous thoughts I was having. She's always given the best hugs and she knows it because, after every single one, it's followed with a "you always give the best hugs". Her signature scent of vanilla overpowers my senses, helping me appreciate something I'm so used to but know won't last. She lets go and leads me to her red-lit room, which shined down the hallway in the moon-shined home. Entering before her, I place my things in a designated corner as she closes the door, and I sit in her desk chair.
"What'd you wanna do?", leaves her cherry-tinted lips while she gets situated in the center of her bed, which was Eiffel Tower-adorned.
Usually, we just smoke and drink cheap liquor, so I provided the weed. She happened to be older & more experienced with liquor so she always got the alcohol. Getting up off the chair, I walked to the corner with my things, dug in my bag, and opened it up to the back pouch. With a smirk, I pulled out a little baggy, and Ivy shook her head and laughed. Getting up from her spot, she waltzed her way to me swiftly grabbing the bag from my hand, with me going to sit back in the chair. Ivy opened it and a satisfied look fell over her face as she got a whiff of the contents, knowing we were moments away from taking a vacation from our thoughts for the remainder of the night. She follows my steps as she comes toward the desk, reaching over me to pick up the grinder and rillos from the flat surface. Ivy knelt to her knees in front of the desk, as she needed to be able to work her magic without standing up. I watched as she ground the bud, filled, rolled, and licked the blunt, never taking my eyes off of her doing what she specialized in. She must've felt my eyes burning into her because she turned to make eye contact with me while still sealing the blunt and smiling slightly. Turning back, Ivy continued until she was finished in a few seconds, soon grabbing my lime green lighter I left on the desktop when I was here last. She stood up and tilted her head toward her door. With that motion, I stood up as well, grabbed ahold of Ivy and my phone, and walked to the door. She opened it and we started our journey to her back patio. I opened the sliding door for both of us and closed it behind her. We sat in the chairs getting comfortable, preparing to get lifted.
"Yooo play some tunes, Maia!", she giggled.
"You know you always play the music, come on now. You have way better playlists than me", I laughed.
"Fine, fine... I gotchu. Wait, where's my phone? Shit, I think I left it in my room.", she said rolling her eyes.
I lifted and dangled her phone in the air and waited until she noticed. About 5 seconds later, Ivy finally looked my way. Placing the blunt and lighter down on the table with a straight face, she got up out of her chair, walked over to me, and swooped her phone from me with a quick 'thank you' before sitting back down. She unlocked her device and the music began filling our ears. 'Mile High' by James Blake (pls this song while you read for dramatic effect) played and I immediately began to smile, knowing she was playing my favorite song at the moment. She placed her phone on her lap and picked up the session necessities. In a matter of time, the blunt was sparked. We passed it for a while, just talking and laughing, like we always did. The whole time just watching the other. No matter what we did, we always found a way to make each other smile and that's why I loved being in her presence.
