Tricia

It was a regular shift at the HSC Cafe.

Just me, my boss, Priya, and my warden, Bandit sitting in the corner, sipping his iced latte.

Or at least, that's what we wanted Bandit to think.

From beside the espresso machine, Priya gave me a wink and a nod. Thank God I had the coolest manager ever woh wasn't afraid of Rig like almost every other citizen of Boston was.

"Hey Tricia," Priya said in a way that didn't sound scripted at all. "Would you mind doing the inventory for the remainder of your shift?

Seriously. That girl's acting talents were being totally wasted here in a coffee house.

Bandit looked up from his GearHead magazine, interest piquing on his heavily lined face at the mention of my name.

Groaning, I dropped my head back. "Seriously? There's like dozens of boxes of unbought HSC CAFE hats and tshirts. I can save us both the trouble since none have sold."

She gave me a stern look. "I know inventory sucks, but it's a slow day up here and you have almost four hours left on your shift. You'll be able to get almost all the inventory done in that time."

"Fine," I grumbled and stomped my way toward the basement door.

Distracting Bandit, Priya gave him a nod. "You want another cortado?"

He shifted in his chair, seeming to weigh whether or not he should come down to the basement with me. Then, settling back in his seat, he nodded. "Sure."

I didn't look back at him as I closed the basement door behind me. I didn't want anything to catch his eye or look suspicious as I descended the staircase. I pulled out my phone and started the playlist I had created last night while I actually did the inventory—that was Priya's idea. She said that if the inventory was done in my off hours, then technically speaking, I did my job and she wouldn't have any reason to fire me.

I hit play on my Spotify and waited until Priya's text came through a minute later.

We can hear the music a little and Bandit looks appeased... for now.

Bingo. That was all I needed to hear.

Leaving my phone behind so I couldn't be tracked, I dragged a chair over to the small latched window and hoisted myself out of the basement.

Grunting, I looked up to find Jenna standing there above me, arms crossed as I army crawled out the small rectangular window.

"This is like some shit out of a movie," Jenna said, smirking.

"Would you shut up and help me?"

"Help you? Bitch, I packed you a damn overnight bag, loaded your guitar onto the bus and I'm skipping my first ever tour bus to drive your sorry ass to Jersey."

She spun on her heel without helping me to my feet and climbed into the driver's seat of her Prius.

Shaking my head, I stood, looking around at the area behind the cafe for any familiar HSC faces that might have their eyes on me. But there was no one.

When I finally turned back to the car, I froze, seeing Jamie sitting in the front passenger seat. "What... what are you doing here?"

He gave me a weak smile and shrugged. "I'm not allowed to help make sure my lead singer gets to our gig?"

I glanced at Jenna and she rolled her eyes. "It looks less suspicious if I'm here with Jamie. It made sense if we got stopped by one of Rig's goons." She jerked her head to the backseat. "Now get in the damn car and keep your head down until we're on 95 South."
