Yukio's shocking betrayal, a betrayal that shook the foundations of the group. His alliance with the Illuminati had fractured the trust and unity that had once defined their bonds, leaving a void that was impossible to ignore. None felt this betrayal more acutely than Rin, who had discovered the truth about Yukio's actions.
The events that followed were nothing short of cataclysmic. Yukio had broken Rin's Koma Sword, unleashing the dormant power within Rin. It was a power that Rin's half-demon physiology struggled to contain. The adjustment to this newfound power was a grueling ordeal, causing Rin to experience intense fever, nausea, and bouts of delirium. It was a tumultuous process that left him weak and vulnerable.
Under Mephisto's guidance and watchful eye, Rin was confined to Mephisto's room. His feverish state was a constant reminder of the consequences of his brother's actions. The room became a battleground for his body's struggle to adapt, his demon nature asserting itself.
During those difficult days, Shiemi emerged as a pillar of support for Rin. Her quiet yet unwavering determination to be there for him was a source of solace. She had grown closer to Rin in the past year, realizing her feelings for him had deepened into something she hadn't fully comprehended before. She couldn't just stand by and watch Rin suffer.
One evening, Shiemi knocked on the door to Mephisto's room, her face determined as she held a tray with a bowl of cool water and a damp cloth. Mephisto opened the door, his usual enigmatic smile present, but there was a softness in his gaze as he acknowledged Shiemi's presence.
"I brought some cold water and a cloth for his forehead," Shiemi explained, her voice steady despite the concern in her eyes. "I thought it might help with the fever."
Mephisto nodded approvingly. "That's very thoughtful of you, Shiemi. Rin is fortunate to have someone like you looking out for him. You may enter."
Shiemi stepped into the room, her heart aching as she saw Rin lying on the bed, his body drenched in sweat, his breathing ragged. She approached him gently, her hands trembling slightly as she dipped the cloth into the water and carefully placed it on Rin's forehead.
Rin stirred, his eyes half-lidded, but a faint smile formed on his lips as he felt the coolness against his skin. "Shiemi... you're here."
Tears welled up in Shiemi's eyes as she nodded, her voice gentle. "Of course, Rin. I'll stay with you. You're not alone."
Rin's attempt to smile was feeble, but it held a glimmer of gratitude. "Thank you," he murmured, his voice raspy with weakness. The room around him swayed in his feverish haze, but the cool cloth on his forehead and Shiemi's presence anchored him.
Shiemi's eyes were brimming with empathy as she continued to tend to him, her touch gentle as she held the cloth against his forehead. Seeing him in this vulnerable state pulled at her heartstrings, and her determination to help him only grew stronger.
After a while, Mephisto's voice broke the silence in the room, his tone both commanding and concerned. "Shiemi, it's time for him to eat something. His demon body needs sustenance to recover."
Shiemi looked towards Mephisto and nodded, a bit apprehensive about the task ahead. She glanced back at Rin, her voice soft and soothing. "Rin, you need to eat something, even if it's just a little bit. It'll help you regain your strength."
Rin's eyelids fluttered, and he blinked up at Shiemi. The faint smile he attempted to muster didn't quite reach his eyes, but there was a sense of trust in his gaze. He nodded, acknowledging her words.
With careful movements, Shiemi prepared a small portion of plain food, just as Yukio had done for him in the past. She held a spoonful in front of Rin, urging him to take a bite. Rin complied, though the effort seemed to exhaust him. He chewed slowly, his body trembling.
