"Ohmygosh Skyler just DO it!" My best friend, Teefa, yelled exasperatedly to me from about 16 meters below.
I was standing on a ledge that leaned out over a sparkling crystal blue lake, holding on for dear life to a rope that looked like it was about to snap in half. I winced, looking down again. My element was earth, I belonged on the ground, not flying through the air. Who's idea was this again? Oh yeah... I was going going to KILL Teefa if I lived through this.
"You know Teefs, I think I might just climb down now..." I called nervously down to her, backing away from the ledge a little.
"Oh no you don't," she replied, Teefa waved her hand and sent a jet of water straight at me. It splashed all over me and I staggered, I tried to grab for the rope, but I missed it completely... And then I promptly fell off the ledge. I screamed in horror as I free falled into the cool water below.
"Holy -" I didn't get to finish my curse as I plunged into the water. Icy. Cold. Water.
I resurfaced, gasping for air, "TEEFA I AM GOING TO KILL YOU," I screeched.
"Woah Chika, chill your bacon," she replied swimming over to me, a huge grin plastered on her face.
"Bacon? Really?" I rolled my eyes and swam over to the shore, "I should never have let you talk me into this,"
"You loved every minute of it darlin'"
I glared at her and grabbed my towel, "GoodBYE Teefa, see you at dinner," I walked through the woods on the well worn track, making my way back home, her laughter echoed around me. It felt good to be back in my element, amongst the trees and flowers. I shivered as I remember flying through the air. Nope. Never happening again. I belong on the ground. Where it's safe.
Gosh, I'm being rude! Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Skyler Fawn, and I'm seventeen years old. I'm an Elemental. I live in a type of camp for children and teenagers who can control one of the four elements, (earth, air, fire or water). As you've probably guessed, I can control earth, and Teefa's element is water, which she demonstrated with her cool water trick thing.
Speaking of! Teefa Burlow has been my best friend since before i came here. We are born on the same day, but she's like an hour older than me. Which she keeps reminding me of. You ever heard that saying respect your elders? Yeah she tells me that a lot... Nah we're good friends, even if we rub each other up the wrong way sometimes.
Ah yes, we have arrived! Welcome home!
I opened the rounded wooden door to my little house/burrow that is nestled into the slope of a small hill, my home is just on the outskirts of camp, and if I look through the trees I can see some of the other huts.
My burrow wasn't just a big hole in the ground. Of course not! Who would want to live there? No, my burrow had cemented walls that were painted grass green (my favourite colour). A small purple room opened up on the left of the hallway (which was covered in photos of me and Teefa, and our other friends), it was my living room, a plush light purple couch was seated in front of a fireplace that had logs burning to embers, remnants from this morning. On the back wall facing the doorway was a bookshelf, it was packed with books, like not even joking, if you were to pull one out, the rest would probably cave in on top of you.
Joining onto that room was my kitchen, it was smallish and I didn't use it much, but when I wanted to make, like a cake or something, I'd use it. The kitchen had a doorway leading out to the hallway again, and opposite that doorway was my bedroom. I opened the door and stepped into my light green room. A queen size bed was pushed up into the corner and next to it sat a bedside table with a single white rosé sitting in a vase of water. I had a ginormous walk in wardrobe filled with fighting outfits, party clothes, casual clothes, shoes, weapons and all that jazz. On a little table dedicated to it, my jewelry box sat. It was carved out of wood with gemstones sunk into it. My mother left it to me before she died.
Oh and around the corner was the bathroom and study.
So there you have it, my little hobbit house.
I made my way back out to the front of the house, I have to check on my flower garden. What I saw almost made me cry, my poor poor tulips were shedding their leaves. No! I knelt down beside them and placed my hand on the soil beside them. Feeling the energy of the earth underneath my fingers, like my instructor taught me, I focused on sending out healing messages. Right before my eyes, the tulips were standing up again and going from brown to a light pink.
I'd done it! I'd actually done it! Yes!
I lifted my hand from the ground and dusted the dirt off it on to my sarong that I'd tied around my waist after I had left the lake.
Deciding that I'd better get ready for dinner, I went back inside to have a shower and change my clothes.
