"We're short of money again," Korn stated with a calm expression. It was that special brand of calmness that made anyone in his vicinity quake in fear. He didn't have to yell or scream. All he had to do was express a few words of displeasure and people were tripping over themselves to solve the problem.
Gun wasn't immune to that tone of voice, although he did his best to sound authoritative. "Don't worry. I have a few suspects." Gun gulped when Korn turned dark eyes toward him. His eyes held a quiet disdain that made him itch to shoot him right then and there. If it wasn't for his bodyguards and the ever alert Kinn, he would have done it ten meetings ago. "We'll catch him before our next shipment comes in," he said after clearing his throat.
Kinn slumped back into his seat with disappointment. Once again his uncle would escape punishment. Sometimes he thought his father was too lenient, other times he thought his father just liked to humiliate his brother in every meeting. There hadn't been one meeting that Korn didn't humiliate Gun about something or other. As if constantly reminding him why he was the leader.
"If you need help, I can lend you Kinn to investigate," Korn's smirk was barely perceptible, but Kinn spotted it.
"That won't be necessary," a deep voice said firmly. Kinn turned to glare at Vegas, who was sitting a few seats away from him. "We'll bring you the culprit before the next shipment," Vegas continued. His dark eyes slid from Kinn's father to Kinn for a fleeting look. Just one second, but it set Kinn's teeth on edge. His heart filled with rage. He needed payback.
His fist clenched on the table and his jaw set while he did his best to not look in Vegas' direction.
"Kinn," his father said.
Kinn looked at him expectantly.
"Why don't you assist Vegas anyway?" Korn gave Vegas and Gun a condescending look. "Two heads are better than one."
Kinn wanted to protest, but the hard glint in his father's eyes made him admit defeat. He sighed and got up from the table once they'd been dismissed. All the bodyguards cleared out as well as Kinn, Vegas, and Kim.
His youngest brother had been coming to the last few meetings and hadn't said a word. He would come, lock himself in their father's office with their father, and then go as quietly as he came. Kinn found it strange, but a large part of him just hoped Kim was preparing to take over for him and he could go and live his life.
Someone clapped him on the shoulder and he rolled his eyes when he saw it was Vegas. He shook him off and was about to curse him when Kim approached them. His dark eyes looked from Vegas to him as if trying to work out a puzzle.
Kinn spoke before he could ask any questions. "What brings you here?"
"Dad asked me to come and listen in," Kim said with a smile.
Kinn frowned. "Since when do you listen to him?"
Kim just smiled. "How have you been, P'Vegas?"
Vegas bared his teeth in a semblance of a smile. He was smart enough to know when he was circling around another shark. There was no way Kim was taking part in their meetings just because. His uncle was planning something and Vegas would bet his life Kim was involved. "Just peachy." He clapped Kinn's shoulder again and grinned when he stiffened. "Sorry, Kinn and I have business to discuss. See you next meeting."
Kim frowned after them. He hoped his father knew what he was doing.

As soon as Kinn and Vegas were out of sight Kinn shook him off. "Don't touch me."
