There he lay peacefully, without a worry. Lance was the boy's name. The only time he liked was when he was sleeping. He didn't need to think about anything or be connected to the world that he wanted to leave. His phone started to vibrate. Lance got up slowly and walked to his desk. The phone was extremely bright. Lance reached down for his phone, but a searing pain went through his hand. He winced and looked down at the bruise on his hand, "Why are you hurting now when you should have before..."
He grabbed his phone and turned down the brightness. His friend, Dean had texted him. Lance had found it hard to believe someone like Dean considered him a friend. Dean was a brilliant kid who had the best morale and was extremely fit, basically the perfect vision of a guy. Lance considered himself to be liked by association. The only thing he thought was he was is smart. He wasn't fit he was just skinny, and he was always finding the pessimistic side. Lance finally read the text, "Hey are you up yet? Because I need to talk to you about something"
He quickly types back, "Yeah Im up what's wrong?"
Lance clicks send, and almost immediately after Dean responds, "Oh nvm sorry it can wait, and good morning!"
Lance gets a deep pit feeling in his chest when texting back, "Ok and don't worry you're fine, but anyway see you at school"
He puts his phone onto the desk then gets clothes and go to change in the bathroom. Lance looked at himself in the mirror. His jet black hair was messy and his bright blue eyes were dull. He had tons of bruises on his arm. Lance put a belt in the black jean's belt-loops. He takes his shirt of and he has random words scattered on his side. He put on a grey shirt and to cover the bruises he put on a button-up shirt. Lance walked out and got his backpack and left without eating. Dean greeted him as he got on the bus. They went to the back and sat down. Dean smiled at Lance, "You should unbutton the shirt."
Lance retorted, "But what if I'm not wearing an undershirt?"
Dean started to unbutton his shirt, "First off I can see it, and I know you don't go anywhere without wearing an under shirt."
Both laughed, but both knew they were both hiding something from the other. Lance finished unbuttoning his shirt and he pulled the shirt apart showing the grey undershirt. Lance smiles a bit and they talk until they get to school. They had separate because their schedule weren't the same. Lance walked down to his locker and there was silvery-haired girl he had never seen before. He tapped her shoulder, "Hi I don't think we've met..."
She jumped and fell to the ground, screaming. Lance quickly apologizes and helped her up. She looked up at him, "Hi sorry about that Im just a bit jumpy, and my name is Atro."
Lance got his stuff from his locker, "Well nice to meet you, Atro. I've got to go to class so see you later."
Atro waved at him as he walked down to AP Chemistry. Most of his classes were easy to him, but gym was a challenge. In the class it was lifting weights and endurance. The most he could bench press was the bar. Lance got through the class with more pain than he had expected. It was lunch though. He met up with Dean and went to the cafeteria. Dean got pizza and a few candies from random girls. Lance just got a water and a small bag of chips from a vending machine. They ate together at a secluded table with three other girls. One was Andrea, she was short and she had long wavy blonde hair. Her twin, Brin, was just a bit taller than her, but still looked the same. The other girl was Fiora, she had long black hair and dark green eyes, and she was taller than Dean but not Lance. "How has you guys day gone so far?" Brin said happily.
Lance knew she would say something amazing that happened to her because she only says that when she wants to. "You've said that almost everyday Brin... We're halfway through the year..." Fiora murmured.
Lance laughed under his breath and spoke up, "We have a new student apparently."
Dean lit up and almost shouted, "Oh yeah shes in my Math class, Atro isnt it?
Lance nodded and Atro came up behind him and roared. He turned around, "Oh hey Atro."
She slouched down and whimpered, "I thought I'd try to scare you."
Dean started to laugh, "Anyone who tries to scare Lance is welcomed to our group."
Lance made smiled and cross-eyed. Atro jumps back and he laughs and blinks a few times, "Sorry Im a tad bit mad if you asked me."
Atro replied, "Well just do that thing with your eyes again."
Lance laughs and scoots over for her to sit down. Atro sits down and nudges him. Dean looks nervously at the two. Lance looks at him smiling and Dean's face turns red. Lance asked, "What's wrong Dean?"
Dean wanted to tell the truth but he made a cover up, "Oh just thinking on how you two would be as a couple."
Dean got a burning sensation through out his whole body. He hated having to lie. Lance's face, well basically everything, went red. The lunch bell rang and everyone said bye and left to there classrooms. Dean went to Honors Biology. The class was relatively easy for him, but his lab partner was a total snob. His name was Asher. He always went on about how blessed he is for having a rich family, and how he hated homosexuals. Dean finally learned how to tune him out a while ago.
After Biology was done he just went to a weight lifting class then a gym class. His classes got done early today, so he got to go home early. On his walk home there was a lamppost that flickered, and by it there was injured cat. Dean ran over to it. The cat hissed and tried to run. It fell over and cried out. Dean picked up the cat carefully and ran to a Veterinarian office near by his house. The cat turned out to have a broken leg. Dean waited outside the office and checked his phone. Lance was out of school by looking at the time, so he called him. Lance picked up almost instantly, "Hey Dean, what's up?"
"Hey Lance, do you know the veterinarian place by my house?"
" Yeah?"
"Could you swing by? I found an injured kitty and I want you help."
"Im on my way." Lance hung up.
He almost got there in seconds. Dean greeted Lance and walked into the office. The vet saw the two and said, "Ok boys, he should be off his cast in a week or two, but he can still walk but it might take a while. Also, you can pick him up, but please be careful. Oh and here."
She handed Lance the pain killers for the cat. He gave them to Dean and picked up the cat. They walked out onto the sidewalk and started to walk to Dean's house. Lance started to pet the cat and Dean just stared at him wanting to tell Lance. Dean then burst out, "So are you holding up well living all alone?"
Lance nodded, "It's working out well actually the money Im getting from the life insurance company is just enough."
Dean had forgotten that Lance's parents had died. Lance was always so happy-go-lucky to him. They got to Dean's house and checked it with his mom that they can keep the cat, which they could. Lance had to be separated from the cat. He finally left and Dean had no homework so he just laid down and got mad that he didnt tell Lance. Dean started to cry from anger. He finally fell asleep after an hour unknowingly on what Lance was doing to himself at that moment....
