Ted's POV
This creep was probably attempting to crack a joke, but his lack of talent was painfully obvious. His sense of humor rivaled that of a rock, and his demeanor screamed "serial killer."
The HR department seriously needed to step up their screening process. The person who was meant to provide security was making me feel like I could be stabbed at any second.
I scoffed at his feeble warning and sprang up from my seat. I was the CEO here, even if it was all just a charade. I still held a higher position than him. Technically.
Maybe this loser applied for the position, but he clearly didn't possess the skills I had. It wasn't my fault that I was born with talent.
I brushed past him, intentionally bumping my shoulder against his. Yet, instead of me being the one to exert force, it was as though an invisible barrier repelled me.
What the hell?
I let out another scoff and muttered, "Whatever." Opening the door, I left the room, stepping out into the corridor.
The place was empty, the staff had gone home. The rhythmic clicks of my shoe's heels reverberated off the sterile white walls as I strode down the hallway.
Ian's footsteps echoed behind me. The more I quickened my pace, the more he seemed to gain speed. Was he suddenly teleporting or something?
I planted my feet firmly on the floor, releasing a heavy breath of annoyance. He loomed behind me, and I could feel the intensity of his cold gaze drilling into my back.
Enough was enough.
I groaned and spun around to face him. "Why the hell are you following me?"
"It's my job," he replied simply.
"Don't you have anywhere else to be?" I challenged, irritated by his condescending attitude. Who did he think he was, looking down on me?
What kind of confidence pills was this guy taking?
"I have strict orders to stay by your side," he stated matter-of-factly.
I raised an eyebrow, genuinely puzzled. "Why?"
Why was he so hell-bent on tailing me? Why didn't they hire a lazy bum for this gig?
"It's my job. What part of being a bodyguard do you not understand?" he shot back, a hint of exasperation in his voice.
"I didn't ask for this!" I couldn't help but raise my voice.
He looked at me quizzically. "I didn't ask for this either. I was assigned to be a bodyguard, not a babysitter for someone who can't resist any hint of cleavage."
What the hell? Wasn't that a perfectly normal human reaction?
"Just leave me alone for once!" I snapped, frustration bubbling over.
"No. My instructions are to accompany you wherever you go. If you can't accept the terms and conditions of this arrangement, feel free to submit your resignation. We can find someone else to fill your role."
My head was pounding with a mix of anger and annoyance, and I felt a strong urge to punch his smug face.
"I didn't read the damn terms and conditions! Who the hell reads those?" I retorted.
I was practically screaming like a banshee now, and I wanted to tear my hair out in frustration.
"Someone who values their professionalism and dignity as an employee, something you clearly lack," he replied coolly, his tone laced with a sharp edge.
