Megumi's Point of View
.
.
Two days later and my laptop and I are inseparable. I use every spare time I got—even during lunch break and in between the changing of periods—to duck my head down and work my fingers off above the keyboard.
I was continuously torn between paying real attention to my class or secretly scribbling the next scene of my script in my notebook, just pretending to take a note. In some classes where I know for sure either Yuuji or Nobara—or both—also takes, I humbly ask them to jot down everything the teacher says so I can copy them later. So far, they did a great job. Even though I still need to verify what they wrote later due to the various shapes of their handwriting.
I was also torn between writing my script or researching more about the actual necromancy spell, knowing that I also have few days left until Tsumiki's departure to Kyoto. But then I realize that I need more time to learn it and Tsumiki also comes back every couple of weeks, so clearly, I should prioritize this script first. Besides, how can I learn the advanced spell peacefully if every few seconds I imagine his smug face towering over me as he claims my victory? No way in hell I would allow that.
'But wait.' That thought stops my fingers on their track and pulls me out of reality from my daze. 'I haven't seen him since.'
I look up and let my eyes wander around the big student's longue. It's been hours after the school is over, and the whole school is still packed with students who are either doing their club activities or just hanging around. Yet there is no sign of people scurrying away to make space for the number one bully in school, nor any pink-haired head in sight. That is until Yuuji suddenly sits herself down in a big whoop on an empty sofa beside me.
I eye her up and down. She wears her hair in half-pig tails along with small strawberry earrings. Her eyeshadows are all gradients of pink that complement her honey eyes beautifully. I look down and find her wearing a white crop top and a pink tennis skirt. My mood suddenly brightens. Even before she could say anything, I could swear if I'm into girls, I'd kiss her immediately.
Then she pops the bubblegum that she's been chewing. "Oh my God, is this your Lexie Howard moment?" She leans her head closer to mine, reading parts of the script that is shown on my laptop that I place above my lap.
And I laugh. "My what?"
"You know, Lexie from Euphoria season two where she writes script play for days, airing people's dirty laundries without their consent." She looks up at me and I look back at her, wide-eyed.
I giggle again. "Yeah, maybe. You want me to air yours?"
She looks at me funny. "Girl, the only dirty laundry I have are those in the baskets in my bedroom. You know I'm unproblematic."
Her confidence gives me an idea to tease her back. "Really? I'll ask your brother, then." I don't know why it slipped out of my mouth. I regret it the second I said it.
Yuuji suddenly perks up. "Oops! Someone has been close to my brother!" She nudges me playfully with her elbow.
I shake my head. "What close? We're just rivals. I haven't even seen him since that day."
"Yeah, that's because you haven't expanded your point of view past this screen, girl." She reaches for my laptop screen and pulls it half down. Now I completely turn all my attention to her. She sighs. "As much as I don't like him, I would be very happy if you end up together with him. I mean, wouldn't that make us practically sisters?"
