The next day, the school was buzzing with the news of the student that died. It's all anyone could talk about. Rumors spread like wildfire. Alaine sat down in her first period. She sighed and buried her face in her hands. She barely slept the previous night because of all the speculation about the dead student. Her classmates gossiped behind her and put in her walkman to try to drown them out. However, she was unsuccessful.

"No, I guarantee the dead student is Steph. She didn't come to school yesterday, and she still isn't here today. So sketchy.."

"No no no! It's definitely Reed. Same thing with him. I tried calling him this morning and he didn't pick up. He was absent yesterday in sixth period."

Alaine irritatedly breathed in sharply through her nose and held the walkman tighter to her ears to drown out the gossip. However, she was still unsuccessful.

"I bet they were murdered. Just think about it! Dead bodies of high school students don't usually show up around here."

"No, don't say that. I'm sure it was just an unfortunate accident."

"Yeah, a murderous accident."

Alaine couldn't take it anymore. How disrespectful these two students were being behind her! She aggressively tore her walkman off her head and jerked her body behind her to face the two students. Nate and Rita.

"Do you two realize how disrespectful you're being?! A student just died! A mother and a father are grieving their child right now, and all you two dipshits can talk about is rumors about what happened!"

She snapped at them and they looked startled by her sudden rageful join to the conversation. Rita looked Alaine up and down with a piqued look on her face, while Nate looked more surprised than upset.

"Oh, uh, sorry! You're right. We were being incredibly rude."

Nate stammered as Alaine flashed him an offended look. Nate's cheeks turned red but Rita scoffed and crossed her arms before giving Alaine a snarky reply

"Ummm, I don't remember including you in this conversation. I think you're the one whos being disrespectful by turning around and yelling at us."

Alaine's eyes widened at this comment, and Nate chuckled awkwardly before putting a restraint around Rita with his arm

"Excuse me?"

Alaine asked with a breathless gasp

"Uhh, Rita it's fine! Just leave it!"

Rita pushed Nate's arm off of her and she cocked her head at Alaine with a arrogant smirk spread on her face. She leaned forward a little bit, so she was face-to-face with Alaine

"You heard me. I'm offended by you. Take that attitude away from our conversation please, sweetheart."

Rita sat back in her chair, still with that smirky look on her face and her arms still crossed. Alaine chuckled in disbelief and she leaned forward to Rita's desk so her words could be a little clearer

"You're nothing but a bitch for that, Rita. How can you be so heartless? You disgust me."

Rita still smirked at Alaine, almost like she was challenging her to go further with her word choice.

"Ms. Lexington! Please face towards the front of the classroom."

Alaine startlingly turned around to the teacher glaring right at her, holding onto the edge of his glasses to take a look at her better

"Oh- Sorry!"

Alaine turned back around quickly to give Rita one last glare but Rita squinted her eyes mockingly at Alaine and blew her a kiss. Alaine scoffed and turned back around. This was going to be a long class.
