Chapter One

"Everybody's falling in love and I'm falling behind"
-falling behind, Laufey

Amelia never really thought about love.

Not that she didn't believe that it didn't exist, she didn't have the time for love. Amelia Hotchners life was far from average, she was a gifted child, and she was 18 when she completed her double degree in criminology and psychology and graduated from high school at 16. She looked up to her brother, Aaron a lot. They never grew really close though, they had a big age gap and Aaron wasn't open towards her.

Amelia walked through the door to the cafe near her apartment, she sat on the stool in the corner of the cafe, observing her surroundings for a few minutes, A man in a red jacket sitting with two other men at a small table in the middle of the cafe, A business women sitting in the other corner from Amelia taking a phone call while on her laptop and a couple sitting together near the window of the small building. Her eyes lingered on the couple for a few more seconds, She never really was around people her own age and she was okay with that, people thought it must of seen so lonely for her, she was a teen in a college unable to experience any type love due to the ages of everyone around her.

She didn't see a problem with it. She liked her independence, she raised herself, and likes being alone. Her parents weren't abusive or neglectful, just distant. Amelia wasn't planned and so they just put the bare minimum in until she learnt to just do things herself. Amelia didn't have deep emotion like other people, she liked people, and she disliked people, she didn't hate nor love people because she never made a close enough connection with anyone.

She was okay though, she still felt things, she had struggled with her mental health in the past but she always came back. Amelia felt her phone vibrate in her baggy jeans and picked it up to answer it.

"Hey Amelia, sorry it's been a while" It was Aaron, They hadn't really spoken after she moved out of her parent's house, not in a bad way, they just weren't overly close.
"Hey Aaron, it's all good, we're both busy these days, how are Hayley and Jack?"
"They're both doing okay, I was just calling to ask you if you could possibly come into my work to help me with something, we've been working a local case and the profile has been worked on for days but it's still a mess, could you give us a fresh set of eyes?"
"Oh, um sure, when should I come in?"
"Are you working today? As soon as you can if possible."
"Yea, sure. I'll be there soon"
"Thanks, ill introduce you to everyone else that will be working with you when you get there"
"Okay, see you."

He hung up after that. He's sent over files for Her to look at before but She never gone into his work. He use to say She would be a valuable asset to his team but She just never was that interested in it. She liked where she worked.

Amelia grabbed her coffee and left. Catching the bus over to the FBI headquarters, on her way over she thought about what her life would of been like if she continued her criminology study after college. She could of join the BAU, but she just went a different direction after college, she wasn't unhappy with where she was now.

After a short bus ride and a 5-minute walk, she walked up to the building, Aaron waiting for her out front.

"Hey, Aaron," She whispered pulling her headphones down from her ears so they hung around her neck. Amelia felt a bit underdressed compared to everyone else around her, they all looked professional in pull suits and ties as she stood there in her navy blue baggy jeans, Black long-sleeve tight-fitting shirt and Converse. Her brunette hair sat naturally wavey down her back. Her black tote bag hung over her shoulder as she walked into the building with Aaron. Going into the elevator, when the doors opened she was in a room with a few other people with her. Amelia smiled awkwardly and walked over to the board where it showed a very.. Unorganised profile.

"Everyone this is my sister, Amelia, She's pretty young but she was an extremely gifted kid and might be of use to us. Amelia this is JJ, Prentiss, Morgan, Garcia, Rossi And Reid."
She just nods towards them, looking at all of them but a certain person catches her eye. Ried. She thinks a bit more, why does he seem so familiar? She connected the dots pretty fast.

He use to go to Caltech with Her. They never talked but they were both pretty young and taking the same course.

"So she's like the female Reid?" Garica asks in a joking tone. "Basically, she's just quieter than him." They all giggle at this comment "We actually use to go to the same college I was in her in my criminology lectures" Amelia's head shoots towards Reid who is already looking at me. "Yea, I remember." She replied in a soft voice.

"Okay, introductions are over ours. The profile we have is a male aged 20-45 who is strangling men and killing them and mutilation their genitals. We thought it was a sexual sadist at first but it didn't match up with the fact last murder he left a note of sorrow to the parents, nothing is making sense, The victims were also victims who got away with rape charges."

She thought over the information for a minute or two in her head. Everyone stared at her waiting for a reaction.
"It's because the unsubs a female trying to bring justice to other women who have been raped and their rapist got away with it, She probably was sexually assaulted and the offender got away with it."

"Which would have been the stressor and she started killing men who got away with it, including her own offender!" Prentiss finished connecting the dots.

"Garcia, can you cross the check the first victim with any dismissed rape trials or trials with minimal punishment?"
"Got one, the trial went cold and he walked a free man."
"What was the victim's name, she's probably our unsub."
"Juliet Gomez"
They all started getting ready to leave, standing up from the chair she picked up her bag and walked out of there, no one noticing her absence, which she didn't mind, she helped bring a criminal to justice.

She oddly felt sympathetic towards Juliet. She understands how frustrating it must have been to see a man who gave a life worth of trauma to walk a free man.

Amelia thought a lot that night. She knew that what happened to those men was bad, but Amelia couldn't shake the thought that maybe they did get what they deserved. The other side of her thought more, that was someone's son, brother, or friend. It affected people, all because the criminal justice system couldn't evict men of a horrible crime.

Apart from the reason Amelia never actually joined the BAU, she didn't want to work in law or criminal justice. The system had holes, she didn't like how it operated or how rape charges were taken so lightly. She changed into some Pj pants and a hoodie and hopped into bed before falling asleep.
