The pub started to get more crowded as a lot of people were here to get a beer after work or simply catch up with friends.
"Taking my break! See you in few secs Mila!" -Kelsey said, pulling out her cigarettes.
I headed to the front of the bar and started taking commands. I definitely enjoyed having those summer jobs before college starts again.
As I was serving a martini to a man in suit, I saw a guy I had never seen before crossing the road and talking to Kelsey. Five minutes later, here he was sitting in front of me, in comfy jeans, black shirt and nice sneakers.
"Hi, may I get a beer?" -the boy said in what I supposed was a Bolton accent.
"Sure"- I responded.
He was staring at me, and I could feel my cheeks turning a bit red.
"I've never seen you around"- I heard him say while I was taking his glass.
I looked up at him with a whole "What are you talking about" look.
"I come here very often"- he add "I'm Thomas"
"Nice to meet you Thomas, I'm Mila"
I smiled at him. It was actually the first time a client noticed me, and the fact that I was new here.
"So Mila, how did you even end up here?" -he said when I handed him his beer.
"Why do you care?" -I said, with faint evil look.
"Just asking" -him, starting drinking.
I smiled again. Nice boy. Since nobody requested me and Thomas was on his own, I answered.
"I need some money if I want to go move to the US for a job later"
"So you finished uni" -he guessed
"Nope, UCL for still two years, I'm not even sure if I want to leave London after graduation"
"So you live around here"
"Yes, you Bolton boy"
He looked amused.
"Don't you have a boyfriend you care about enough for not leaving the country?" -he smiled
"None of your buisiness" - I replied with humor
His eyes insisted though.
"Actually he's in med school and we've been together for a year and I haven't seen him in a month so I didn't figured it out yet, who knows if we'll still be together in two years?"
He was simply listening to me, drinking his beer with a flawless gesture.
"What do you study at college?"
Another question.
As I looked up again, my eyes locked into his and I could tell he had something special. He had put a beanie on his dark brown hair and was very fit. Why did he care that much?
"All drama arts and sort of class like that"
His eyebrows curved.
"Oh drama, why isn't this surprising"- he said ironical "Your life already sounds like drama Mila" he said in a wink.
"It's not true! You don't even know me" - I said.
Before he could pull out another question, I asked him.
"So what about you, stranger Thomas, why are you here all alone?"
His joyful behavior immediately changed and his childish smile turned into a stone face.
"Well... That's a long story you don't want to hear about"
"I told you about my relationship and all, enough with your questions, I'm sure it's all about a girl"
There started a long conversation between me and Thomas. Kelsey would finally come back and I told her I was taking my break to sit next to Thomas and listen to the rest of his story. The boy was actually really troubled. He was falling for a girl called Ash and he told me every single detail about her, how impressive she was, and funny, and beautiful... And I actually wondered "How can even a boy think about all of that? Boys are not supposed to care". From that very moment, I wanted to know more about him cause I felt real, I felt like I actually found the friend I had not had in my life since my best friend Oliver left for Australia couple years ago. You know? The one friend that listens to you and you listen to?
"Mila! I need help over here!" -Wendy yelled at me as a group of bikers had rushed in the bar.
"If you excuse me, here's my duty, see you later" - I said, leaving Thomas with his beer.
"Go there little miss sunshine, I'll see you around"
One wink and he was back on a date with his beer. I went to help Kelsey then.
After a few sandwiches, beers and tequila, I looked up to where Thomas was sitting a few minutes ago... To see that he was gone.
(This story has no real plot yet but I had a vibe to write this day, I hope you liked it)
