Ding don... ding dong...
Randhir pressed the doorbell and patiently waited outside their home. He checked for the umpteeth time for any alcohol smell from his mouth. He was happy that he didn't smell any and motivated himself to act normal.

As the door squeaked open, Randhir passed a sweet smile to his wife, to which she passed a questionable glare and moved aside, giving him way to enter. As he stepped into the house, he stumbled a bit and held on to the nearby wall for support and Sanyukta too rushed to stop him from falling.

That was it, the cat was out of the bag.

"Are you drunk?" Sanyukta asked in disbelief as she helped him to stand properly.

"What nonsense?? No way" Randhir lied.

"Don't you dare lie. I can clearly see it. Now don't tell me you drove the car in this state" Sanyukta seethed and Randhir gulped in fear.

"Woh... I didn't want to drink. This Sahil na? He only forced me" Randhir made up a story on the spot.

"He forced you and you drank. Don't you have your own sense? You promised on me that you won't drink and look at yourself Randhir" she stated and her decibel was raising with each passing second.

"You had an accident because of this same effing thing and you still want to drink??" Sanyukta asked, stressing on the word "accident"

"That was a minor accident Sayukta. So stop making a fuss. And about today, I came home safely right? Now what??" Randhir made his way to the bedroom feeling dizzy. He didn't want to talk or rather get scolded further.

"You are incorrigible Randhir. You don't value me or my words. You have changed a lot" Sanyukta started again and that was it. Randhir's last string of patience broke, thanks to the effect of booze he consumed.

"Enough yaar Sanyukta! You and your endless complaints and advices. Just enough" Randhir shouted throwing his bag which luckily landed on the sofa without any harm.

"For god's sake... Stop advising me all the time. You are not my mother to keep telling me what is good and what is not" Randhir stumbled a little as he turned to face her.

"What do you think of yourself haan?? Do you own my life? Why do you have something to say in every damn thing I do? You know what?? Now a days, I don't feel like coming home, all thanks to you!!" Randhir accused pointing a finger at her, without knowing what effect his words will have on her.

"Whh... what did I..." Sanyukta wanted to ask but her voice failed. She was not able to comprehend anything.

"Yes... Its only because of you. You are a complaint box Sanyukta. You only have complaints to make and nothing else. There is no love between us anymore. Everything is so mechanical. Now a days, I... I feel like this marriage is suffocating me. Why don't you just leave me alone??" he yelled and made his way to the bedroom and directly landed on the bed, without even caring to change his clothes or removing his shoes.

There, a poor soul was shattered beyond imagination. She stood there in shock. Each and every word of his pierced right through her heart. She never thought she would hear such accusations from the love of her life. She wondered where she went wrong. What made him feel suffocated? Did she fail anywhere as a wife? Thousands of unanwered questions pondered her mind.

Wiping her never-ending tears, she moved to their bedroom only to find him sleeping on his stomach and snoring softly. She chipped a sad smile and removed his shoes. His dress was slightly wet due to the late night drizzles of Mumbai. She carefully removed his wet clothes and made him wear a tshirt and trackpants, without disturbing his sleep.

As she settled herself beside him, she couldn't help but cry her heart out. The mere thought that her love was suffocating him all this while was killing her. She leaned in slowly and kissed him on his lips and a fresh set of tears made their way out.

She wiped them one last time and turned to the other side, with a strong determination in her heart.

Little did Randhir know that once the sun rises, his life is going to be completely different, may be just the way he always wanted it to be.
