Everything Leah could see was sand, sand and silence, only interrupted by her own breathing. She was the first of 30 failed attempts to land on this strange planet.
Exactly 30 years ago, deep space scanners detected an anomaly. At first, scientists mistook the planet for one of millions asteroids whose path only glimpsed the edge of solar system. But time passed, and the mysterious asteroid, instead of going its own way, decided to say hello.
Asteroid number E1269 became a scientific sensation and surprised half of the planet, like a distant alien that saw something that humanity could not even think of. The resulting excitement did not subside over time, and the keen eye of mankind and sharp mind could even figure out that the asteroid is actually a planet with its own atmosphere.
Unfortunately, it also had its own gravitational force. That, together with the fact that the course of Planet E1269 changed every year, exactly aimed at planet Earth, raised the entire planet to its unimaginable alert. Forcing humanity to steadily unite in the face of a growing threat, after the inevitable crisis that all news publishers wrote with a capital letter.
A crisis that lasted much longer than all the bipedal creatures that call themselves humans wanted. Approaching planet E1269 helped to do something unthinkable - to create a single planetary government with several official languages and to focus the main resources on science and research.
Of course, the main emphasis was on the destruction of the enemy, but along the way, humanity was able to eradicate many diseases that previously were untreatable and even poverty itself, which has always been a true shadow of life. Therefore, mankind did not abandon attempts to send the first astronaut scouts to this impending threat.
A successful attempt was 30th, but unfortunately gravity was stronger than scientists thought. Leah landed badly and her ship crashed, leaving her without communications, a way home, or even life-saving supplies.
Now, after first shock passed, she wasn't panicking or even wasting her breath, Leah was walking towards the strange ruins that looked like ruins of buildings made of yellow stone and covered with strange symbols. Arriving there, she saw a way leading down.
- Whatever it was, I've seen enough of the sand. she thought.
The contrast of underground became a real darkness for her, but when her eyes got used, underground room turned out to be very spacious.
Room was illuminated by a giant crystal which beginning was even deeper and which only middle part was in this room. Perhaps over time, top of crystal was destroyed.
Coming closer, Leah saw a three-fingered print, which raised curiosity of girl and forced her to put hers on top for comparison. Sudden flash of memories that weren't her quickly overloaded astronaut's brain
Leah woke up on the floor. Her space suit was constantly beeping, alerting her of depletion of oxygen tanks. But she already knew what to do. Planet E1269 was actually an ark, which job was to find an orbit, where it could support life. However, when the ark was ready, its creators could not decide who was supposed to be on it, creating a fierce war with no winners. Delayed start and contradict commands from a long-destroyed race, all that was left in on-board computer.
Now, Leah has given the command to become a new planet in the solar system. Giving humanity a new breath in the construction of previously unseen ships - arks. Unfortunately, by leaving here her last.
