She fell limp in my arms. "Mom," I looked at my mother with fright in my eyes.
"What?" she looked at me then Brin.
When she saw here she immediately went into hyperactive-mommy-mode. I tried to shake Brin. She woke up startled and started to hyperventilate. I took her by the shoulders and had her stare into my eyes, "Brin, you are okay, tell me what is the matter," I said gently.
In between breaths she said, "The fighting... it makes me... nervous. Like someone.. will get," she took a deep gulp, "hurt."
I was the only one who knew what she meant. My mom stared wide-eyed at her waiting for Brin to say she was okay. "Um, mom can you get Brin a cup of water, she needs it."
I looked at Brin and then at her lips. Wondering what they tasted like I leaned in and pecked them, "Don't you dare scare me like that again."
She pecked back and cuddled me like I was a down comforter in the winter. My mom came back with a tray full of snacks and two cups of water. Brin took tiny sips of the filtered water while I finished mine in two gulps. I wrapped my arms around her and with my left hand's index finger I traced small hearts on her freckled arm.
I can't say I am in love but I can say that I probably will be.

Brin is staying over again because of her fear of her dad. She says she will go back home soon, just that she isn't ready yet. She fell asleep wrapped in my arms. I kissed her lightly on the back of the head and buried my face into her hair. Her smell. Oh, her smell! She smells so amazing! I think I really might be in love.
