It's Not All Roses | Brian May

Chapter 1: childhood

Well- let's just say.. this whole story starts in 1957, Hampton (which is a city in London.) Brian here is a normal 10 year old boy that goes to school and just does his own thing.. like every other human being does. But, he is kind of a loner, he doesn't have a lot of friends. Oh and don't get mistaken here! He has tried to make them hundreds of times.. but the other kids always assume he is a 'geek' or a 'nerd.' Y'know, the kind of things you get called when you're different. Well.. the thing is, Brian IS different.. he is interested in other typical things than cars, teddy bears or board games like Monopoly. He likes stars, space and guitars way better.. and no one seems to appreciate him for that. You'd say that's sad.. and I would too honestly, but in the end.. liking that kind of stuff is the best decision he has ever made.

Today, it is a normal regular day.. Friday July 12th, meaning it is summer! And close to his birthday.. but he isn't really excited about that, because with what friends is he supposed to celebrate it? Anyways, let's continue. Brian wakes up, brushes his teeth, eats breakfast and gets ready to go to school. He puts on a white buttoned shirt and a pair of simple short trousers.. he also puts on his new watch he spent all his savings on.. Brian and his parents don't have lots of money.. so he tries to be careful with it and actually spend it on worthy stuff, like this watch. However, he gets to school, first simple class.. maths! Brian seriously loves math, he is actually SO good at it. (well.. its not like its very hard math, because he is only 10 years old obviously), but he is pretty smart for a young kid!

"So, does anyone in this classroom know the answer to this multiplication?"

The teacher asks while writing it down on the chalkboard, Brian looks at the question and he almost knows it immediately.. he writes something down in his notebook while he puts his hand up to answer it, but then all of a sudden he hears an.. unfamiliar voice yell it through the classroom.

"The answer is 32!"

A girl utters, she is sitting in the back. Brian looks behind him to see who said it.. and his eyes meet with hers, she has brown long hair, almost black.. dark hazel eyes, her hair is in braids, with small white ribbons at the end of them. She's wearing a white dress that kinda matches with the ribbons. She seems to be fidgeting with her gown the whole time, like she's annoyed by it or something. He quickly looks over at her hands under her desk moving around constantly, and after that he looks back at her face.. they stare at each other for a few seconds.. the young lady gives him a quick smile but then she looks away again, out of the window, it's very sunny outside.. and pretty warm.

"Huh..? I don't recognize her.. she's probably new or something, there are lot of new people coming here recently, and none of them turned out to be nice to me, I bet she's not any different."

He mumbles to himself as Brian continues to look at the girl. He then scoffs and also looks away from her, back at the teacher that is some explaining some other simple stuff. He doesn't really like the fact that someone else answers the question before he does.. who is she?
The classes go by pretty fast, and before he knows it.. recess has started. Oh he really hopes that no one is gonna bother him today, please let it be a good day.. please. Brian sits on the swings, obviously alone.. gently swaying back and forth on it, he's looking down at the floor.. just thinking about when he'll finally get a friend, a good friend that will actually be there for him, and would like to talk about his interests and stuff. He's deep in thoughts you could say.. until he hears that unfamiliar girl voice again, really close to him.

"Hi there!" The young lady says in an enthusiastic voice while she's standing right in front of him, he gets a bit startled for a second, but Brian doesn't bother to look up, he just sighs.
