I dropped the pen on my book and stretched my fingers only for me to hear...
"To facilitate their slaving business, slave traders and their African partners often invested a great deal in developing relationships of trust. "
The history teacher dictated oblivious to the fact that we (the students) are having a hard time catching up.Or maybe she's doing it intentionally, who knows?
Okay, we're currently taking a history class and this teacher has spent the past 45 minutes dictating the note like the world is coming to an end and our lives depend on taking this note.
" Ma, are we in Russia?" A short dude at the far end of the class said all of a sudden causing the class to murmur.
" What sort of question is that, Eric? " The teacher faced him with her arms akimbo.
" I'm just saying, cos you've spent the past one hour dictating this note, you're not even giving us time to breathe." He said causing the whole class to erupt into laughter.
To be honest, the guy is actually right, she hasn't written a single thing on the board since she entered, kilodeee.
The teacher just shook her head, I guess she's used to it.
" Eric don't distract my class, I know you're not ready to learn" she said and continued her heartless dictation.
" What's the time? " I whispered to Kunmi.
" Twenty minutes more, Girllll, I'm exhausted, why can't she leave?" She pouted like a baby.
" Kunmi, what was the last thing I said? " The teacher said all of a ssudden.
Jeezzz, I wasn't even listening. Kunmi froze, it was evident that she didn't listen also.
" Ma?, I.." she stuttered " I don't remember ma"
" You don't remember and you have the audacity to disturb my class, are you even in this class at all?, Okay what is the Atlantic slave trade? "
Wait.. she hasn't explained the topic na, how is Kunmi supposed to know?
" Honestly ma, I don't know. " She said bowing her head low.
"Olodo" someone muttered.
Olodo - a Nigerian (Yoruba) term for someone being dumb, stupid or just doesn't know anything
The teacher turned swiftly to the girl that spoke.
" Did you say something, Rita? "
"No ma" she muffled a reply.
" Well.. it seems you know the answer, so tell us. "
"Uhnmmm... The Atlantic slave trade is trading of people in the Atlantic ocean in the Atlantic ocean. "
A pretty girl sitting at the front scoffed.
" Ma, what she just said is utter gibberish, the Atlantic slave trade is the transportation by slave traders of a enslaved African people, mainly to the Americans. There's nothing in that big head of hers yet she had the audacity to call someone else Olodo. "
