A SPACE to think

Life and Death were playing hide and seek again. They did that almost all the time. Even when they had more important things to do.

They were starting to get annoying. And it wasn't just Space who thought this. All the smaller gods had to bear their own responsibilities and even do the jobs of these two. They could've overthrown them.
They collectively had the power to defeat the Great Two. But that would destroy everything.

The idea of life and death were just engraved into the fabric of The World. Right now The World was alive, and Death would fulfill His purpose when it gets destroyed. No one knows what each of them were supposed to do at the Closing, but everyone knew they had a great job to accomplish.

And then there was Space. The one who was always everywhere, but never nowhere. Everyone just forgot about It. Everyone knew Space was always watching, and experiencing everything. They couldn't hide anything from It. Yet Space  never interfered. Maybe It couldn't. Or it was just too bothersome for Space to do anything. Either way Space had a lot of knowledge and wisdom. Lots of ideas and thoughts about everything.

Space didn't have many important jobs. Only one. Somewhere outside of space and time everything Space had to do was to weave Its own clothes, and fill in the infernal darkness outside of Its controll. Space was the explorer of the gods. It protected the walls of reality, and lit up the darkness in the unknown.

It had time to think about things, and watch from an outside view. Space watched as Life was born on earth, and as Death first found her. Space saw as Its twin, Time slowed down just to let the two of them have fun on Earth.

Space wasn't the grumpiest of the gods, but It certainly wasn't the happiest seeing the Earth's two most important gods being irresponsible, and avoiding their jobs. These were the worst years for the living beings, and the dead were suffering deep in the ground. And Space was just watching the suffering of the people, animals, plants, and all the horrible things happening.

The games Life and Death were playing were childish, but at least made a difference. Ever since Life created the Humans, things bave drastically changed. The people were believing in them. In the gods, even if they gave different names to them, they still knew Gods were out there.

And Space hated it. They were just short lived, dumb creatures, who conquered the Earth in a minute, and destroyed everything, but they had happiness. A thing Space envied. Space didn't feel happiness. It couldn't. But the heights, a human would go for love and happiness were fascinating.
And for the first time since Space expanded, and created the gods of the Cosmos, new gods were born, even for the simplest of things. Like Nature, Water, and the slightly annoying Luck.

The worst part about these new gods was that they forgot about the past, and didn't know that Space or Time existed. Of course they knew the ideas behind these two gods, but they forgot that these ideas had souls.

And with time, their beliefs became true, and both Space and Time isolated themselves, and became actually forgotten.

They went back to a place and time, where they could do their job, and when they still had power. It turned out humanity's faith had more effect on them then they imagined. Not exactly on them, but on the smaller gods, who slowly replaced their jobs, and took their souls away from them.

They only had one thing to do. Wait untill they were in power again.

Somewhere on Earth, after people came to their minds, and gave up on the gods. When they turned to science, and treated every god, like they treated the old gods long before that, two young men were crossing the street in a small town. They were followed by a sense of dread and uneasiness. And they were looking for something. Or rather someone.
