"C'mon, Quinn, please?" Gina begged. It was two days after she had asked to stay and she was already asking to borrow my car. I had said no at first, but now I just wanted her to stop begging.
"Fine." I snapped, giving her my keys. "But if I see a scratch on it, I will put a 'small scratch' on you." I warned her. Gina grinned wide.
"Would you want to go with me?" She asked, smiling.
I shrugged. "Where are you going?"
"On a small little road trip to the beach with my friends. You're welcome to come along. You can even drive. I'll pay for gas." Gina told me, grabbing a water bottle.
I sighed, "Okay. I'm coming. How many friends?"
"Four," Gina says as she grabs a ChapStick from her purse and opens the cap.
"Four?" I raise my eyebrows, then roll my eyes.
"Yeah!" Gina runs the balm over her thick pink lips.
Grabbing the keys back, I sigh and walk to the garage. Mom was at work, and she had always left me. Me and Gina got in my car and drove to her friend Iris's house after Gina had gave me the directions. Then we went to her friend Brady's. (I knew Brady was her boyfriend). Next, we had went to her friend Vic's house and got him too, and finally to her other friend Hannah's.
"So, to the beach we go?" Hannah grinned, sitting in the backseat with Iris.
I nodded. "Yeah. Guess so." I shrug.
"So who is this?" Brady asked Gina.
"This is Quinn, my cousin." She told everyone, and what followed her was a couple of "hey"s and "hello"s.
"Hi," I said as I kept my eyes on the road. "left?"
"Yep." Gina agreed, then looked back at Brady and smiled.
Brady smiled back.
We went to the beach and sat on the sand. Everyone was in the water or sitting on the sand, near the water. I was sitting on the sand, far away from the water, watching the waves.
I watched the people, and noticed how everyone was communicating with everyone, how everyone was just... happy. Ever since I had turned ten, something changed and I was different. I was a different Quinn. Depressed, my counselor said. Anti-social, my mom said. Okay, Gina said.
Gina had always had my back and always was there for me. It hurt to know that I was ignoring her now, but it was too different now to change it back to the way it was before.
"Quinn!" Vic, one of Gina's friends, had yelled for me. "Can you get some sunscreen from the car?"
I nodded slightly, and got up. Walking to the car, I heard the flop of my sandals and the squish of people's clothes and shoes.
This was the beach.
I grabbed the sunscreen out of my car and went back to the beach, throwing the sunscreen to Iris. She thanked me.
All of Gina's friends seemed pretty nice, but it seemed like they were like... a pretty group. Like, only good-looking people could be their friends? But I didn't care. I wasn't planning on being their friend. I didn't want to be anyways. I was an anti-social person and that was the way I liked it.
Iris was the bleach blonde with bright green eyes and tan skin.
Hannah was the one with shoulder-length that was brown and had blonde ends and hazel eyes and ivory skin.
Vic was the one with dark brown hair that was long and had bright brown eyes, and tan skin.
Brady had short curly dirty brown hair, sun-kissed skin and dark blue eyes.
I was the red-head with bright auburn eyes and creamy skin.
Gina's friends and Gina herself kind-of got on my nerves. I didn't like people at all, so it shouldn't bother them that I don't like them. I didn't get out much, and when I did, I was alone, and I usually just sat and thought.
"Hey," Brady sat next to me, rubbing some sunscreen on his legs.
"Hey." I replied.
"Me and Gina have been dating for a year." Brady stated. Looking over at him, I noticed he was just telling me something to make conversation.
"Cool."
"Yeah. And I want you to tell me something, if you can." Brady told me. I nodded.
"What is it?"
"Can you tell me what happened to her parents?" Brady asked, his eyes pleading. I stared at him.
"No." I answered, closing my eyes.
