Ece walked around the office bored. It was just her and Melih today.
Melih, because he wasn't going to be allowed in the field for a very long time, if ever. And her...well, they were probably not going to allow her in the field for a long time either.
She stomped her foot in irritation, all because she had tried to help them yesterday.Onur had given her very specific instructions *not* to leave her position during their stakeout, but she could hardly just stand there and watch them being taken down by the new assailant she spotted approaching from a distance. She tried calling, but they were all so high on an adrenaline rush, that none of them answered her call. So she did what she did best, jumped right into the thick of things, and fixed the situation; taking the guy from behind with a hard knock to his head.
She cringed a little remembering the mayhem that followed. Onur and Ali trying to protect her while fighting off the rest of the bad guys, even as she pulled out a few of her own tricks. A wide-eyed Onur watching in anger, disbelief, and reluctant pride. It was clear that he doubted her maneuvers were all from his training alone, but for now he was not asking any questions .
Little did he know that she had trained with the best of them and had the scars to prove it, she touched her forehead reflexively. She'd paid her dues and put that part of her life behind her, but she knew she could still take down Blondie Melek if she ever had to, and God knows it took a lot of will power not to do just that.
She would not share that aspect of her life with the team though, the one that they couldn't find even with all their digging into her past. And for now she couldn't share it with Onur either . Maybe one day... soon... when she knew with certainty that she could trust him.
She clucked her tongue disapprovingly at herself. Uggh, who was she fooling? She was already trusting him more than she had anyone in her life, other than Musti. Not just ready to trust him with her secrets, but even with her carefully guarded heart.
Ece made a snack for Melih, and he grabbed it from her with adoringly thankful puppy eyes. She punched his arm playfully, it felt good to have Ali and Melih on her side. It almost made up for Ayla Teyze and Blondie's disapproval of her presence...almost. She thought back to how staunchly Onur had defended her to the chief and her face broke out into a big, happy smile. No one had willingly risked their own integrity for her like that before. Ever!
She walked into Onur's office and paused to take in the sight. Of course his desk was meticulously clean - not a single loose paper in sight, not so much as a pencil out of place. It was impersonal and stark, nothing that would give any indication that he spent more that half his life here.
He liked to compartmentalized, she had understood that about him. Except when she caught him staring at her, or when he looked at her all concerned and soft-eyed at the smallest hint of discomfort or unhappiness on her face. Or when his eyes crinkled and he laughed out loud at her dumbest jokes.
A part of her wished he would be just as stoic with her as he was with everyone else, at least she wouldn't be free-falling into whatever it was she was feeling for him - she was too afraid to give it a name.
She itched to do something more useful with her time. There was only so long she could stare at the monitor with Melih and watch the rest of the team have fun in the field. Maybe she should just go home and prepare a fancy dinner for Onur. She sensed that he was trying to distance himself from her and it alarmed her. She wanted to address whatever troublesome thoughts were churning through his head. She figured it might have to do with the fact that she had fought like a professional yesterday. That he had realized she had more secrets, and was upset she had not trusted him enough to share.
She did trust him fully though, she realized in that moment, and she was suddenly anxious to open up to him, maybe as soon as tonight...
She took out her phone to call him and let him know that she was heading home (in spite of his instructions to not leave the office), then thought better of it. He'd just be mad at her while out in the field, and that didn't serve any purpose. Maybe she could leave a note on his desk, if she could find a notepad somewhere. I'll tell him to come home for dinner and come hungry and curious, she thought to herself, grinning.
She opened up one or two drawers before finally spotting a set of notepads of varying sizes neatly stacked. She took one out and almost shut the drawer when her eyes caught an envelope that said "DNA Test Results"
Her breath hitched, and her heart heaved painfully in her chest. It was her test results, she was sure of it.
It had broken her spirit to learn that the DNA results didn't match her to Elif. She couldn't shake the feeling that there had been a mistake somehow. How else could she account for the instant connection she felt with the young girl? Maybe if she read the results for herself, it would give her some closure.
She pulled out the envelope carefully, her hands shaking. She took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and opened up the folded paper.
........
Onur felt horribly restless on the field. He missed Ece something fierce, and at the same time he hated that he missed her, hated that she occupied every waking thought, hated most of all the guilt that was burning him up inside.
He didn't know why he had lied in that moment. Maybe he was afraid she would leave, maybe he thought she would jeopardize the operation, maybe he was trying to self-sabotage as punishment for allowing his feelings for her to take over his life in a way he didn't even know was possible.
He couldn't bear to be alone with her anymore, his lie like an anchor around his neck, threatening to bury him under its unyielding weight. And he couldn't bear to be away from her. He needed to tell her the truth. Maybe he'd ask to see her for dinner and tell her everything, then spend the rest of his life trying to win back her trust.
They had been out all day in the field and it felt like the longest he'd been away from her in days. He rushed into the office with an urgency, even as Ali watched amused. He looked around the office, little alarm bells going off in his head when he couldn't see her anywhere.
"Melih, Ece nerde?" he asked sharply.
Melih shrugged, heavy-headed from all the snacks Ece had fed him.
Onur ran into his office, his heart beating faster and louder, drumming in his own ears. He saw the empty envelope on the desk, the open drawer...and he stopped short. Something gripped at his chest and squeezed; a foreign, unknown emotion that made his knees buckle and his head pound...Fear.
..........
He knocked hard on Ece's door, almost wishing for a moment that he hadn't fixed the damn thing. After what seemed like an eternity, he heard the lock being turned.
"Ece...please..." he said, as the door cracked open.
Musti stared at him, his face angry, his eyes accusing, "Ece gitti"

Hello there!! It's been a while :)
I needed a ship that inspired me to write again, and #EcNur is that, and so much more.
This is just a little something small and angsty, to dip my feet into the fanfic pool again, dust off the cobwebs, find my mojo, etc. etc.
I hope you enjoy it <3
