Dusk

One

A cool breeze rushed by making the tree branches shake. Leaves drifted down, falling, falling like there's no tomorrow. My eyes scanned my surroundings, the sun peaked through the tree tops and beamed down at me. The light felt good against my skin.

A smile formed on my pale face as butterflies flew past me. Birds sang among their homes of sticks and flew off as I stepped closer to one of their nests. I rose up to my tip toes and peaked into the home finding two small eggs, holding lives that will soon be here.

My foot slipped off the base root of tree making my arm push the nest off. I landed on my bum safely but the nest didn't. I turned over the nest to find two broke eggs. Sadness and guilt filled my body. I killed two lives, children of new parents. I covered the smashed eggs with what was left with the nest and stood up.

My icy blue eyes stared at the scene I've created. The two birds will be back any minute. It's time for me to leave.

My feet crunched the leaves under me, making a rhythmic pattern. I hoped around, crushing the leaves and probably many disgusting bugs. I left the woods and made my way home. Grass tickled my toes and made my ankles itchy. I began hopping again trying to make my way home without getting a rash.

"Avelene!"

I lifted up my head seeing my mum on our new porch. My eyes glanced at the moving truck, all the boxes were out and in the house. My eyes went back to my mum and she stood there holding the last box I believe.

"Yeah?" I called out. All of a sudden I felt something brush against my leg making the hair on my neck stand. I slowly looked down and saw my cat. Relief filled me, making my body relax, and my shoulders shrug down.

"Come in! It's getting dark. Don't you want to see your new room?" She yelled.

I picked up Ruffy, yes I named my cat Ruffy. She rubbed herself against my arms and purred as my hand went back and forth on her back. Her fur felt smooth and soft against my hand, making it feel weird. A hissing noise came out of her little mouth, she was facing the woods and slowly calmed down. My eyes scanned the area she was facing. They landed on green eyes. My eyes widened and I ran through the filled, scared as hell.

"Come on Ruffy!" I yelled still frightened. I hopped onto the steps and ran passed my mum and into the the house.

My body collapsed on the staircase filled with boxes. What was that? Who would be in those woods except for me? I tapped my finger on my chin thinking. I didn't hear anyone following me or see anyone. My body shook in fear. I'm never going those woods ever again.

The sound of footsteps filled my ears, my head snapped up. There stood my mum peering down at me.

"It look like you saw a ghost or something. Are you alright?" She asked. I nodded in response, I was too shocked to speak.

"U-uh I'll just go pick a room to be mine." I stated. She stared at me.

"Mum I'm fine, I swear." I told her. She blew out air and walked off.

"Dinner in 20!" She called from the kitchen. 20 minutes, got it.

I picked up two boxes with my name on it and skipped up the steps making my way into the hallway. Ruffy brushed past my leg and ran into a room with the door wide open. As curious as I was, I followed her. My bare feet left the hard wood flooring and onto soft white carpet.

The room was filled with my furniture. My dresser was in front of this giant window. My queen sized bed was in the corner, facing the window. I guess this is my room. I quickly dropped the boxes and ran to my window, I peaked out. Great my bed was facing the woods. My room was facing the woods. I skipped back to the boxes and opened them up.

Pillows

I placed the books on the self that was attached to my dresser and the pillows on my bed. Luckily there was tape with the posters. I hung them up above my bed and on the opposite side of the room. Hissing filled my ears making me look up at Ruffy, her paws were scratching away at the window.

"No don't do that." I commanded. I pulled her off and held her tight as I looked out the window.

Oh shit

Oh hell

Oh god

I dropped down onto my knees and laid my head in my hands. A high pitched screeching noise filled my ears. I felt my jaw clench and the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I forcefully opened my eyes and peered at the window. My eyes stared at it waiting for something to happen but nothing did. The screeching sound stopped and my mouth gaped open.

Ruffy ran out of my arms and out of room as quickly as she could. My icy blue eyes met the same the green as earlier. I picked myself up and ran out of my room. My body slammed into someone making me scream.

"Ave open your eyes." My mums voice filled my ears. My head shook in response. I felt her hand move strands of hair out of my face. "Open your eyes, tell me what's wrong."

My heart raced, my breathing was heavy. We're being watched. "C-can you hang up curtains in my room please? Make sure they're not see through."

She lifted my head up by my chin and scanned my eyes, "sure honey but are you sure you're fine?"

My head went up and down, "positive, fine. I'm alright!" I slapped her hand off and stood up, "Is the pizza here?

My eyes snapped open and scanned my dark room. Ruffy lifted her head, seeing that I was awake. My eyes continued to scan, they laid upon a figure stood at the end of my bed. Ruffy began hissing at the intruder who was standing still, watching me. His eyes met mine, green eyes. My heart began racing and my breathing quickened.

"Don't hurt me." I whispered with tears forming.

His eyes stayed without emotion, he was still as a rock.

"Get out!" I whisper-yelled. "Leave me alone!"

He finally blinked and moved back. He turned away from me and climbed out of my window. Still I couldn't see what he looked like. My window silently closed and locked. I gulped. My head began spinning, my mind was racing. I slowly lowered my body into my sheets and hugged Ruffy close to me. I was wide awake at that point with my guard up. Hell I won't be getting any sleep.
