I crossed my legs and huffed silently. My arms were folded around me tightly, as I squeezed myself in my personal bear hug. I figured if I did this long and hard enough. I'd pass out and end up in the clinic. I might be lucky enough to have Dr. Kurosaki's son stay with me awhile, which was hardly likely, cause, I mean, how often was he going to run out of supplies anyway. Nothing much happened in Karakura town anyway. While, not if you count all those spirits being chased by these large monstrous creatures with holes in various parts of their bodies, and then them stopping, sniffing the air, commenting on you and your friends delicious smelling "spiritual energy or pressure" or something and then taking after you and crushing the lot of you into the pavement or walls whenever you venture outside. It became so bad that all three of us, Junko, Sakura and I, Kyomi ended up in the emergency room multiple times and were soon classed as mentally ill for causing self harm to ourselves and each other, and then covering it up with ludicrous stories of monsters with holes chasing us and spirits.
We should've kept our big mouths shut, or do like Aislinn in Wicked Lovely and ignore them, though the latter was unlikely, whether or not you pretended to see them did nothing but determine how many bones you broke, or how many bruises you had to cover with concealer before school the next day so the staff and other student wouldn't think we were being abused at home. Which we were'nt, our parents were great people.Great people who were now pushed to the edge with limited understanding and now patience. It wasn't our fault we attracted Hollows like Bella attracted Edward. And not in the strange lovey dovey way. The other way. Because of her blood. But in our case it was "spiritual energy..."? But it was in fact our faults, even though I tried to take the blame for it, I took the blame for everything and they both hated that about me.
Next to me, my dad ran a hand through his salt and pepper hair for what must have been the eighth time. We'd been sitting outside Dr. Yuu's office for over an hour and he had a big meeting in the next half hour. I didn't understand why he didn't go. It wasn't like he needed to be here today. I just assumed that it was to show his support, and to be a rock for Mom, who was on the other side of me, picking at her form fitting hot pink dress, tall spindly gold heels hitting the ground harder and faster than the jack hammer a few buildings away. Sakura and I kept stealing unhappy glances at each other for opposite sides of the waiting room, sharp blue eyes clashing with steel grey ones while Junko lazily flipped through a National Geographical magazine, leaning against the large glass window. Nothing ever fazed that girl.
"Sakura honey, did you take your pills this morning? You're shaking like a leaf! And you're cold sweating too," said the brown haired woman next to her, brow creased with worry.
Sakura rolled her eyes and sighed. "Mom, stop worrying, I take my pills everyday, no worries, I'm tired of all this waiting, can't really sit, no?"
"What about you, pumpkin?" asked my own mom, turning her to large brown sparkling eyes on me. "You did remember to take it right?"
I bit my lip and scratched the back of my head, I'm not known for my great memory.
"I uh, I, oh dear, I can't say Mommy, I uh..." I hated being put on the spot, even though I'm sure it was completely unintentional, and in front of people I already knew.
"You took, child, I called you up just before you went to bed, remember? Oh now wait, what am I asking, course you don't," smirked Junko from the window, not looking up from her magazine."Hey!" I exclaimed in mock indignation. "I so do to remember, some...times...yeah...maybe...a couple...ya know..." My voice dropped a couple of decibels and I hung my head blushing.
"Junko, leave poor Kyomi alone and try to smarten yourself up for tomorrow's Geography test, God knows you need all the help you can get," teased Sakura with a gentle playful smile.
"Test tomorrow. No way!" Junko and I yelled in unison.
"Junko stop teasing me! Obviously you knew! Its not my fault some of my screws are missing!"
"I'm not!" replied Junko, shock registering over her perfectly shaped oval face. "I'm teasing you Kyomi! Honest! I seriously forgot all about that crap, hun! Oh my gosh, you thing we're gonna get tested on the Big Bang Theory?"
Sakura and I blinked and made a face at Junko with her slack jaw as she looked back and forth between us with her liquid chocolate brown eyes. "What?" she asked slowly,
"Um, Junko, the Big Bang Theory is Science, I think," said softly, tough loud eoungh to carry about the room.
Junko sniffed as Sakura giggled behind her light pink fan she always carried around in her faux snake skin ,cherry blossom pink and white patterned clutch purse, and I shook my head in disbelief. "Yeah, I knew that. Psh! Was just testing you guys is all."
I propped my chin on my upturned hand and said, in my soft baby voice "Uh huh Junko, we believe you, just like we always do. Right Sakura."
Sakura squeezed her eyes shut tightly and nodded, giggling even harder.
Silently our respective parents watched us in silence, probably wondering why we couldn't be this way all the time. The happy normal friends that were so complexly different, yet still somehow managed to go together perfectly, like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with little banana slices in between. The three musketeers. Not the three crazed musketeers. But we weren't crazy, we weren't all having the same delusions, were we? It jut wasn't possible. Right? Even the therapist had me doubting myself, she was just that good. Finally the door opened, letting out Mizaki Kenpachi, a tall broad, light brown skinned girl with a temper and a Harlem accent and attitude to back up her demeanor. It was made clear to all three of us that we might have a fourth musketeer joining our ranks soon. Cause we weren't the only one seeing things...
