I stood there, frozen, feeling more helpless than a small child. I stared as the Screeching Hole lifted her and screamed it's gut wrenching scream. I fell to my knees, shaking, mouth agape, I knew I should be calling for help but the words were lost somewhere in the all consuming fear. The air smelled of death, fear, utter despair and...loneliness.
Somewhere, far away, very, very far away I could hear my best friends shouting for me to get up.

Far away from it all.

How could they afford to be so selfish, at a time like this.

I crouched down and covered my eyes, screaming along with the horrifying monster, watching through salty eyes as its hand inched its way closer and closer to its broad, mouth. Its teeth shockingly white, black sockets with tiny balls of light that could've been it's eyes were trained on me, taunting me. Telling me what I already know. I was helpless, and alone, and stupid, and a waste of space. So much so that now I was being punished for existing by watching one of the few people I held the closest to me, die. Instead of closing my eyes, I held his hauntingly evil gaze defiantly, and I knew I would do the same when my turn came. I was going to face death head on.
