I open the door and step in, seeing Bucky, head in hands, the papers from the file all across the table. I go over and crouch next to him.
"What's wrong?" I ask gently.
"The name Steve Rogers keeps popping up. It awakens memories, but I can't remember the memories."
I nod slowly. "If you want a more... personal recollection, Steve Rogers is staying at the place I work..."
Bucky looks up hopefully. "He's still alive?"
"Yeah. And if you want to come along to work with me tomorrow, or I could call him and see if he could stop by today, you can talk to him, he can explain it better than I can.
"... I would like it if he could come over this evening..."
"Alright. He might be a bit overwhelming, he was your best friend. I'll calm him, just a sec."
I get my phone out of my bag and dial the number I have down for Steve. On the third ring he picks up.
"... Hello?"
"Hey, Steve. It's Kodiak."
"Oh, hi."
"Could you come over to my apartment?"
"Er, uh, why?"
"Someone here wants to talk to you, no it's not a crazed fan."
"Alright. I'm not doing anything at the moment, so I can head over. What's your address?"
I give him the address of the building, and the apartment number, he says he'll be right over and hangs up. I sigh.
"Okay. He'll be here soon."
"Thanks."
"No problem. I'll be right back." I say, walking to my room, where I drop my bag and change from the suit to a casual gray tee with a picture of a wolf in the center, excercise pants, and my jacket over that. I pull the sleeves over my wrists before ruffling my hair, so its moderately messy, and finally put my guns in their holsters and cover them up with my shirt. I then join Bucky in the living room, picking flynn on my way. I flop on the couch and pet the ginger cat, who purrs loudly.
"Do anything exciting today?"
"Not really. I just stayed around here, read the file, played with Flynn, messed around with the technology you have around here."
I nod. "Boring overall, right?"
"A bit."
I grin. We stay in silence for ten minutes until there's a knock on my door, I jump up and answer it, revealing Steve, who, as soon as he sees Bucky, stiffens and shiffles his feet a bit, looking at the ground.
"Welcome. He wanted to talk to you. He's read the file and started to remember some stuff."
He nods slowly.
"Now you two kids have fun, but not too much fun." I say, winking at Steve before leaving, shutting the door behind me, but I saw color rising to his face.
I laugh to myself before jogging down the stairs and starting around the block. I stick my earbuds in my ears and play music as I run, keeping an eye on my surroundings the whole time. Pink Floyd hums in my ears as I do my circle. Nothing exciting happens. Just the same old, same old. The park, museums, buildings, people. I stop by my usual cafe and get a water bottle before heading back to my apartment. The round was half an hour total. I sigh and head up the stairs to my apartment rather slowly, well, slower than usual. I open the door to the apartment and enter slowly, seeing Bucky and Steve in deep conversation, I slip in and nod to them, heading to my room to shower and relax while they continue, I don't want to seem too nosy. I'll be told if either of them want me to know.
I do what I planned to and collapse on my bed, tired. And I fall asleep, face down.
