|Lounging in her suite for what felt like centuries, Adeline's head snapped to the direction of the door upon hearing a determined knock. She hummed gently, taking time to get to the entrance, knowing they could hear every step she took.

As she reached for the entry and opened it, crimson eyes met her own. Knowing the Volturi kings were visiting, it wasn't a shock to see them or Aro's smug appearance.

It had been a few decades since she had the pleasure of seeing them, looking just as youthful as she remembered. As their eyes took each other in for a few moments, the woman felt a pang of sadness. Memories flooded back like it was yesterday, but despite the years of separation she sighed, experiencing a deep sense of warmth and familiarity.

"It's been too long."

"Indeed it has, Adeline." Marcus spoke, tone flat but clearly trying to meet hers. His eyes gleamed with recognition and delight, even if his face didn't change. With a swift movement, distance was closed between them and they wrapped their arms around one another in a tight, silent embrace. The hug was soundless, but spoke volumes.

"Don't take her all for yourself, brother." Aro commented, hushing a growl. He felt a slight hint of jealousy at the gesture, with the knowledge that their bond was greater. She chuckled at the matter, before hesitantly detaching from him, and holding arms out for the other.

As everyone greeted her, the Volturi guards entered the residence and scanned the apartment, before standing post around the living room. Adeline gave a wave to Jane and Alec, them nodding back in her direction, not wanting to appear informal in front of their kings.

"So friends, what can I be of help with?" She wondered aloud, knowing they wouldn't come unless there was a reason.

"What ever do you mean, can't we just visit our dearest friend?" Caius shot back, tone dripping in sarcasm. He had been trying to hide his disdain for the woman in front of him, the very same he had done for centuries.

He knew of his brother's fondness for her, but all he saw while looking into those sophisticated red irises were unease and distrust. No matter how many times he had met Adeline, he still viewed her as an outsider.

Perhaps it was how much underlying power she held. When Caius was invited into the Volturi as the third and final ruler, he immediately took notice of how much influence she had, the strong alliances she had made over centuries of time.

Something that really irked him was that Aro and Marcus carelessly disregarded his concerns, because of their history and how loyal Adeline had been towards the Volturi, towards the brothers especially.

Being alive for three millennia, she had seen many vampires come and go, and even earned the delight to be one of Aro's first mentors. Finding him just days after his gruesome transformation, sinking his teeth into a few tourists was enough for her to step in.
