"Happy Birthday (y/n)!"
Here you were, caught completely off guard. Everyone you were friends with when you went to Shibusen was right here; Tsubaki, Black★Star, Kid, Patty and Liz, your partner Mika, Maka...
And most important of all?
Soul Eater. He was in the corner with one hand jammed into his pockets, holding a drink in the other. You had been in a relationship that never officially broke off, but you left to go on a mission to fight an organization that was attempting to create demons and Kishin, and the mission took much longer than expected. You hadn't talked to him since in fear that he had started a new relationship. All you wanted to do was avoid him, and now here he was, in your apartment, looking as handsome as ever. He would be 22 now, since it was your 21st birthday. He was wearing a black jacket and red shirt with black pants and shoes. You were wearing a deep red dress that extended to your knees. A large black bow was tied in the back. He was smiling, but it wasn't really genuine.
"You're turning 21! I can't believe it's been so long (y/n)!" Black★Star said. "You haven't seen my greatness in years!" You sweatdropped for a moment and looked at Mika. It startled you for a moment. "Can you.." She held up her hand. "Say no more." Mika said. She slapped Black★Star in the back of the head. "It's HER birthday, jackass! Let her have the spotlight on her for once, will you?" She shouted. He rubbed his head, then looked at her chest, then her.
"Yo Mika, have you gotten sexier?" Black★Star asked. Her face reddened and her arm transformed into her scythe blade. "You wanna run that by me again, you spazz!?" She screamed. "This is the part where you run." You whispered. She chased him out the door and out of your apartment building. "I'LL KILL YOU YOU BASTARD!!!" Was the last thing she screamed before she was out of earshot.
Tsubaki sighed. "Black★Star can be such a pervert sometimes. Sorry about that (y/n)." She apologized. You smiled softly. "It's no trouble. Mika's the violent one." You told her.
Everyone led you to the kitchen, where a very glittery banner with the words "Happy 21st (y/n)!" on it. "Let me guess...Patty made this." You said. "Yup! I made it super pretty, like you!" Patty said. "I also made sure it was perfectly symmetrical with the kitchen. I also rearranged your room to make it absolutely perfect as well." Kid said, grinning. He was clearly proud of his work. You smiled. It seemed like The Thompsons hadn't changed a bit, or Kid.
"Maka, how has things been since I left?" You asked. She smiled. "Nothing's really happened. No Kishin, no major witches. I got a job teaching there when my dad retired." Maka said. You grinned. "Congratulations Maka! I knew you were smart, but I didn't know you would become a teacher!" You said happily. "But who cares about that? We want to hear about that solo mission you and Mika were on!" Liz said. Everyone sat at the kitchen table, patiently waiting for you to tell your tale. Even Soul watched from the shadow of the other room. You sighed and sat on the counter.
"We went to Kyoto to inspect a minor disturbance in one of the shrines. But we didn't know how bad that disturbance was going to turn out to be. It turned out that there was a witch, Karasyl, that tried to wake up ancient spirits of the dead...."
As you continued to tell your tale, the more you became comfortable in your own skin. You stopped worrying about what Soul thought and even began to smile. It felt like a burden had been lifted from your shoulders. Once your story was over, you still had a captivated audience.
"Wow (y/n), did you and Mika really fight all those demons and take down the witch too? I'm so jealous I didn't get to go on a cool mission like that." Patty said. "Be happy you didn't. It took so much longer than I wanted it to." You said. "Someone might be pissed at you too." Your eyes caught Soul's and he stared into your eyes for a moment. "Don't be such a downer (y/n )! Come on, you're turning twenty-one today!" Liz said. "Live a little!"
