The sun glared as it shone off the water, causing all those who looked at it to shy away. The suspense was horrific. What was the task the children would be set?

If only they had known the suspense would be the highlight of their day. The harsh truth was that the 10 of them would now truely know the meaning of the Perfection Tests. They really do mean perfect.

When the students approached the outside of the building, they noticed their professor in a glass cube. Obviously to prevent him from using his power: gas that would put anyone under his spell in seconds. He, once again, had a scroll. Onasis stared at the gritty paper, daring not to look his pupils in the eye.

"The first of the many tests you will undergo is simple: climb the mountain. Obsticals shall prevent you from making your way, but we have decided to pity you and begin easy. We will lead the way to the mountain, and you may begin any time after the bell goes."

The children obediently followed the hooded figure. James was glued to Addie's side, and Penelope kept trying to work out what the hell was going on. The first glance of the mountain made their stomachs churn.

It wasn't huge, it was a resonsble height. No, that was not the issue. What disturbed then was the obsicles. Spikes as sharp as a brand new dagger, pits that fell deep into the darkness, boulders large enough to destroy everyone in one roll. This wasn't a test of wits, it wad a test of physical ability.

ding dong!!

Leon was the first on his way. His super speed carried him up the hill, and he was going smoothly until the first pit. Too big for him to jump over, to deep for him to risk. Maybe I should've planned this... he thought, glancing around himself for anything he could use to help him.

"Well, that idiot just got himself killed." Araki scoffed, although there was almost a hint of worry in his eyes.

"We shouldn't go alone, we should be with others," Ivy said, barely looking at the others, "but I think that all 9 of us would be too much. Safety in numbers but danger in too many, y'know?"

"Good idea, Ivy!" Venelope smiled, "you're so smart!" The decided groups were as follows:

•Grayson and Penelope, because he knows how to stop her doing something idiotic
•Jameson, Adelaide and Samantha, because they insisted they all be together
•Araki, Venelope, Kits and Ivy, because they could keep each other in line.

Leon peered over the edge as he held tightly onto the rocks. It sure was deep, and he didnt know what to do. Think like Araki, he told himself, if Aki was me, what would he do?

Then he remembered how he got so far: super speed! Maybe the worlds most cliché power would come in handy after all!

He stood far back and braced himself before sprinting at top speed, watching for the jump. He took a deep breath and held it.

And then he jumped.

Penelope skipped up the hill as the flowers and grass began to grow behind her.

Grayson, however, was quite the opposite. Slumped and exausted as he stomped behind her.

"Come on, perk up!" She smiled softly at her companion. "It's just a hill!"

Gray sighed. It wasn't just a hill, bur he couldn't decide if he should tell her or wait for her to find out. How can someone be so damn oblivious? he thought, not only agitated but also worried. If Penny did not understand the extent of the Perfection Tests, she could end up in serious danger.

Still, she hummed Karma softly to herself.

Sam was leading Addie and James single file up the hill. She was secretly worried that if they went in front of her they'd hurt themselves. At least this way she could see the danger first.

"Please can we have a seat?" Jameson groaned. His legs were exausted.

"No! We need to get up this hill!" Sammy was in full leadership mode.

"Oh, please!" Addie begged, "I might die if I take one more step!"

"Fine, but only five minutes!"

Venelope grabbed Ivy's hand. She was confused and scared, so V was the one she thought could console her.

Araki and Kits lead the way. Nobody said a word until a thick log blocked their path.

"What's that?" Venny asked stupidly.

"A log?" Mel thought it was obvious.

"Well, no shit sherlock. How do we get over it?" Araki's temper never failed to worm its way into every situation.

"Burn it." Kits said. Her words were reasonable but her tone was oddly dark.

"Ven? Araki?" Ivy looked at them as she said their names.

They both prepared themselves. Araki rolled his eyes and placed his hands on the wood, and Venelope followed suit.

Suddenly, the log burst into flames, but the flames strangely never caught onto anything else.

Leon's whole body ached. He had crawled from the ditch to near the top of the hill, but his landing was horrific. Thats my leg broken, I guess. Leon sighed to himself

The end was in sight. Atop the hill stood a golden bell, decorated in runes and fancy brass details.

As he squirmed towards it, still on the ground, he wondered how he even managed to survive the fall. Maybe he was just lucky...

...or maybe it just wasn't his turn today.
