It was the day of the U.A entrance exams and I was still alive. I had assumed that it would remain so.
The day of the entrance exams was the first time I could try to see Eliana again after she had joined the Mafia but to no avail. She did not see me and anyone else she was with didn't see me either. But I was certain I wasn't dead or a ghost since I could interact with everyone else just fine.
Immediately after losing Eliana, I had begun looking for her father. I wanted to think that the Mafia was involved somehow, but I found no evidence to justify my suspicion. For all I knew he could have disappeared on his own accord. But why he had disappeared was anyone's guess.
Occasionally his words echo through my mind: "Do you think that she will really use this power against you?" Maybe she wouldn't have, had I handled the situation better or if I had been an actual brother to her. Whatever. I decided to give up on searching for the man. I don't remember why I even bothered in the first place.
I leaned against the U.A wall and just observed Eliana from a distance as she made her way to the written part of the entrance exam. When she had entered the building and I was no longer able to see her, I was joined by someone who I assumed was the executive Mori had mentioned. No one else had a reason to approach me.
"She's a real beauty, isn't she?" he said.
"Do anything you shouldn't and I'll kill you with my own two hands," I said without turning to look at him.
He just laughed at that threat like it was nothing. "You're a funny guy! A brother of sorts?"
That comment made me face him to take a closer look. He was about my height but wore a ridiculous hat. He had long-ish orange hair that made him easy to spot if I ever had to make good on my "promise".
"So your name is?" I asked.
"Chuuya Nakahara."
"Chuuya Nakahara. Remind me, what was Eliana's quirk again?"
"She can identify anyone's weakness. But she practically doesn't talk at all so we're all safe."
"Right," I wondered. "So you've come here fully prepared, I'm assuming. Humor me, what did she say my weaknesses are?"
Chuuya looked at me with furrowed eyebrows before relaxing his facial muscles and admitting, "She doesn't remember you, dude. Like, at all. I heard from the boss that whenever he mentioned you, she looked confused and asked who he meant. She doesn't talk to me to begin with so I haven't even bothered mentioning 'a brother'."
"Painful memories," I admitted bitterly, surprised that the conversation was going relatively well. "I practically gave her to the Mafia on a silver platter."
He didn't bother with replying even if he had something to say. I collected myself.
"Well, thanks for coming to meet me, Chuuya Nakahara. You don't seem half bad. Take good care of Eliana."
"Oi, oi, oi! Giving up on her already?" he said with a smirk in his voice.
I turned and looked at him. It took a moment but he seemed to grasp my circumstances and reasoning on his own.
"What do you plan to do?" he asked for no apparent reason.
"I'll go home, have a drink and jot down a few lines."
