"are you okay?"

chanhee immediately snapped out of his trance, completely forgetting that he was standing outside as he reminisced his unfortunate past. he blinked thrice to catch ahold of himself and his surroundings before looking up at the person who had sent the inquiry his way.

"yes," he answered briefly, "sorry."

"what are you sorry for?" the person laughed, unfazed by chanhee's lack of engagement in the conversation. "I should be the one saying sorry. the noise must be unbearable at this time of night." they apologized.

"it's fine." chanhee waved off the apology nonchalantly.

it's not.

"I wasn't bothered anyway."

I was.

"that's good to hear. I've never seen you around here, come to think of it." the stranger sparked conversation with chanhee out of nowhere, and chanhee had to restrain himself from slowly backing into his house and shutting the door in the man's face.

"I mostly stay inside unless it's a work day." chanhee kept his answers pretty and simple; informative enough for the man to be satisfied and not pry, but not too detailed to the point of oversharing.

"can't relate. I'm always out and about, so that's possibly why as well." continued the unfamiliar man, shifting his posture so his hand was now resting upon chanhee's front porch's railing. "that just brings me back to the noise — I'm really, truly sorry if we disturbed your sleep."

we? there's more people?

"yea, me and my friends from highschool had a reunion party this evening. they decided to stay 'round some more and things escalated, gonna have to wait till morning to see what they do or where they go." chanhee blinked at the words the man had spoken. he really had to make sure he didn't speak his thoughts aloud next time...

"escalated? what's that supposed to mean?" though chanhee tried to minimize prying from his neighbor, he found himself being the nosy one. old habits die hard.

"wanna come and see for yourself?" smirked the neighbor, holding his hand out for chanhee to grab — that was, of course, if everything went according to his mental plan.

chanhee weighed the pros and cons of grabbing ahold of the stranger's hand. this could be the beginning of his end; the man could be a kidnapper posing as his neighbor. he could've seen chanhee standing on his porch, all unaware and vulnerable, ready to be feasted on as if he were unexpecting prey....

"you coming?" the man opened and closed his hand a few times to regain chanhee's attention, not forcing him but not putting down his offer either.

chanhee blinked multiple times once more. he switched his focus between the man's hand and the man's face a couple times before sighing and taking his hand. he decided that whatever consequences followed him and his decisions were things future chanhee would deal with, not present chanhee.

the man visibly smiled, and chanhee noticed that he had a prominent dimple on the right side of his face. he thought it added some charm to the stranger's already charismatic smile, but he thankfully didn't speak that thought aloud.
