Y/N's Pov :

The world cup was finally here. In fact, it has been here for weeks already! We have a semi final match on Wednesday against Australia. I have to admit, I'm not that strong abt it.

This is our chance to make Lucy's dream come true. This is the chance to go through to the final.

2015: knocked out at semi final against Japan.

2019: knocked out at semi final against USA

2023: ???

Lucy's POV:

I can't stop praying. I can't stop thinking about everything that could go wrong in this match. Australia are a top tier team. In fact, the only team that have beaten us since 2021. All the memories of the game keep flooding back to me.

As the day passes by, I have not taken my mind off of the game. I decide to get some rest and try not to think about it any more.

*skip a day*

It's match day.

It's do or die.

We win, or we lose.

Drawing is not an option here.

Kick off was later today so I have a lot of time to prepare myself.

Y/N's POV:

I know the game is on the top of Lucy's mind. She is scared abt it. It's obvious.
Today has gone by in a flash. In the blink of an eye, we were lining up in the tunnel.

Walking out onto the pitch, I immediately spot mine and Lucy's family. They were sitting next to each other. I pass them a smile.

Singing the National Anthem for our country is the biggest honour of my life.

It was about 30 minutes into the match and my nerves were as high as ever. Australia were playing at their best, yet, I'm not sure I we are. That's the problem.

36' all our nerves dissapear. A fantastic rocket into the top corner by Ella Toone puts us 1-0 ahead.

Half time, no score change.

63' They equalise. Sam Kerr

71' We head back in lead, Lauren Hemp doing Lauren Hemp things.

86' Alessia Russo puts us even further ahead as they struggle to get another goal.

After 7 minutes extra time, the final whistle blows. We have done it!

We have become the first England Men's or Women's team to reach a world cup final since 1966.

I immediately run over to Lucy as she let's it all out in my arms.

"You deserve this so much ml" I whisper in her ear, feeling her cheekbones widen into a smile.

Lucy's POV:

I can't believe it.

Two times of going out in the semis, to going all the way to the final. I couldn't be prouder of this team and the way we have constantly played to our best. Let's just hope the final goes as planned....

**The Final**

Lucy's POV:

This day was something I could never have dreamed. It was it. A World Cup Final. I was quite strong about this match though. We had beaten Spain in the Euros just the year before.

I'll tell you this now. Getting women up to Y/N shaking you, and shouting at you to "get up for avocado on toast" was not very pleasant. But I'll give it to her, it was a World Cup Final after all.

A few hours rolled by that fast, it was now an hour before kickoff. We were in the meeting room, finding out the starting lineup. I knew Sarina had picked the best one for today, she always knows how to help us win. I was starting. How crazy is that?

Y/N's POV:

Lucy's excitement today was something else. It was something I had never seen before. She wasn't as excited as normal.. In fact, she was scared almost, frightened. I could see through her. She was worrying about the match, even though me and the rest of the girls have told her not to worry because it will be all fine.

Stood lined up in the tunnel before kickoff. I had butterflies in my stomach. Some of mine, Keira and Lucy's Barcelona team mates were lined up next to us. I can't remember the last time we played against each other.

Walking out, lining up, singing the national anthem for my country in a major final was another feeling. I wasn't able to do it in the euros as I got injured in the semi-final against Sweden.

Kickoff.

Quite early in the game we get a chance, Lauren Hemp just barely missing as her shots reflects off the crossbar. We still have time though.

However, in the 29th minute, Spain take the lead. From an amazing shot by Olga Carmona push then a step in front. We didn't give up. We tried for a goal, one for us to have, to draw level with Spain.

And we did just that. A beautiful long range pass from the one and only Lucy Bronze hit the feet of Alessia Russo, a beautiful top bins goal from her draws us level.

Halftime. And Lucy's face changed. From the scared, anxious face she had earlier. Now it was a smile, one where she knew we would win.

Lucy's POV:

Half time was the moment to come together as a team and talk tactics. Sarina making a few changes. Alessia Russo going off, Lauren James comes on.

We go again.

As the whistle blows for the start of the second time, I immediately feel stronger than before. Lauren James felt brave as she goes from an outside of the box worldie hoping to put us in lead..

AND SHE DOES JUST THAT!

England now lead, 2-1. Can we keep it like that until the end?

However, in the 66th minute, Spain are awarded a penalty...

EARPS MAKES THE SAVE!

God bless this woman. She has helped this team through everything and she's shining once again.

The 80th minutes rolls around and they have a chance at an equaliser but their shot gets deflected, keeping us in the lead. Before I knew it. There's was the full time whistle.

We had done it. I burst out crying, happy tears, I promise. World Champions. Doesn't that sound nice? It certainly does to me. I soon feel a tight grip wrap around me.

"I'm so f*cking proud of you, Lucía Roberta Tough Bronze" my heart just melts.
