It had started as a normal day; well, as normal as it could for the Winchester brothers so that is to say with the usual crawl through the papers and websites for any creatures for them to hunt. So when Dean woke to an unfamiliar sound he reached immediately for the gun concealed beneath his pillow on the motel bed.
"Psst Sammy! Wake up!" He hissed across the room to his brother then turned his attention to the rest of the room attempting to locate the source of the unnatural sound. As Sam warily rubbed his eyes and dragged himself into reality his attention focused onto his older brother and his darting eyes, oblivious to the alien sound.
"Dean?" He mumbled sleepily, "What's going on?" His brother rolled his eyes at Sam and gestured to his ears for him to listen and as the sound grew louder Sam's face fell.
"Wait.... I know that sound..." Dean got up and wandered over to Sam's bed, "You may wanna prepare-" But before Dean could finish his sentence the sound intensified in their motel room as a large blue box slowly appeared in the largest space in the room. After a few seconds the door to the box flew open and an exuberant man leaped out.
"The Winchesters!" He proclaimed to the brothers with a giant grin. "Just the men I needed!" Dean sighed and shook his head but with a hidden amused smile, "Oh no, no way dude last time I went with you I nearly suffocated in Space." Sam stared at his brother, mouth agape. "What?" Dean glanced at Sam and shrugged in a 'that's a totally normal thing to say' way.
"Pish-posh you survived as usual! Come on I though you hunted monsters?" The man’s eyes glistened as they fell upon the brothers, "And by holy Gallifrey have I got a monster in mind for you." And that was it. The man had Dean’s attention. "Ah right yes I'm the Doctor, nice to meet you Sam. Now come along!" The Doctor spun and went straight back into the box, leaving the door open and chatting away to himself. The brothers looked at each other. Sam had heard of the Doctor of course, he'd never imagined he'd ever meet him or even have his brother know him. But here he was, offering them probably the best hunt of their lives. The brothers grinned at each other as the same thought over took them.
Without a word Sam leapt up and threw their varied clothes into a bag while Dean did the same with their weapons and then as one they turned and followed the Doctor.
"Whoa...." Sam immediately faulted as the door closed behind them. Even though his research had told him that the TARDIS was bigger on the inside than it was on the outside having it in front of him in person was a whole other thing to contend with. Dean on the other hand strode straight in with his usual cockiness and dumped the bag of weapons beneath the control panel then leaned back against the railings positioned around the centre. The Doctor didn't notice either of them as he skipped around his controls pushing all sorts of buttons and pulling leavers while animatedly chatting away; "You've both been back in time of course, so time travel is a walk in a park for you boys. Especially my way! No Angel mojo messing with your brain waves and setting you off course!" Sam noticed
Dean's slight frown at the negative comment against Angels and he smirked, he wondered if
Cas knew that Dean travelled with some alien through time and if bothered him. He guessed it probably didn't, Cas seemed to trust Dean wholeheartedly.
"So Doc, where we off to?" Dean asked and Sam had to hand it to the guy over how casual and calm he was about this. Though he did see the tremble and paling as soon as the TARDIS leapt into action.
"Off to a place in time Dean my boy!" The Doctor clapped and spun to face them both.
"Taking you to England for a change of scenery, the year 1888 to be precise. Very exciting year!" He frowned, "Unless of course you were one of those killed but for you two!" His manic grin returned as he pointed at Sam and Dean. "It's going to be a hunt to remember.
