Alya stared out into the distance from where she stood at the edge of a cliff. Most stood farther back, they didn't fly for long periods of time, not like her group of friends. She wondered if they ever felt curious or got bored just staying in one place. She wanted to know what the edge of the earth looked like. She was sure it'd be something beyond her imagination.
"What do you think, Jun?" She asked her friend.
"What, if we'll ever make it back? I don't even think we'll get there. I think it goes on forever, but that's just me," He sat on the edge, dangling his legs off.
"Oh.. really, forever? That's so... long. Isn't it easier to imagine that it ends somewhere?"
"I mean, you believe what you want to, it's just what I think. If your small brain can't imagine big things like a world that goes on forever, that's your problem," He joked.
Alya shoved him, "Come on, I'm serious." She sat down next to him.
He fell onto his back. "Look," he pointed at the sky, "You see all those stars, right? Do you think it just ends somewhere, or does it go on forever?" He pulled her down by her arm.
"I.. I don't know." She said, looking at the wide expanse of space.
"It's okay to want to know something, but I'm just saying, it's also okay to be wrong. So if we do go looking, and we find out that it actually never ends, then don't be disappointed, alright?"
"Yeah. Right."
"Come on. If we want to go on some ridiculous adventure then it'll at least be more fun with more people. I'll try to bribe someone to come with us." He sat back up, "Oh, and if we do find the end, then you can have bragging rights, and I'll try not to get too mad that I was wrong either."
Alya laughed, "Oh, right, my friends Sam, Katy, and Evylin are in already."
"That's cool."
"Also, thank you, Jun."
"Anytime." He smiled.
Jun walked to the benches where his brother and some of his friends sat, "Good evening, gentlemen," he said in an elderly voice.
"What's a guy like you doin' over here?" His brother, Dylan, asked playfully, followed by a chorus of 'yeah's.
"Well, I came to offer something, but I know when I'm unwanted so I'll just go.." he trailed off, turning around slowly.
"Alright, alright, what is it?"
"I'm so glad you asked, well, it'd be an honor, if you would accompany myself and Alya to the end of the world."
There was an extended period of silence.
"Come on, it's not that bad. You guys are always complaining about being cooped up here all the time, let's just go."
"No offense Jun, but that sounds very, very boring." One of Dylan's friends said.
Jun sighed. "She's bringing her friends."
They all stood up.
"...You've got to be kidding me."
"Listen man, "Alya's friends are going somewhere and you're invited" is all you had to say. We're in, when do we leave?"
"Right now."
Soon enough, everyone stood at the cliff's end with bags of food and blankets strapped to their backs. Alya spread her wings, beckoning the rest forward, she flew off, diving and spinning, dipping the tips of her wings into the water and splashing her friends.
They flew higher than they've ever tried to go. Looking back at their home, though they were still so close, they all knew it was too late to turn back.
