Loud music blasted into Y/n’s ears as she slowly vacuumed the floor of the apartment. She yawned as she moved forward, collecting up the dust. Jungkook was ecstatic when she offered to clean the apartment this morning- she needed a distraction. It had been a week since she ended things with Mina and it was all she could think about, guilt and regret festered inside the deepest parts of her brain waiting to jump out at any second. Did she really have to end things? Is what she thought on her lonely nights, the nights where she imagined Mina right next to her, nuzzling unknowingly in her chest as she snored but hugging a pillow was never the same as the real thing. Y/n knew she had to end it but she was human, she couldn’t help but struggle with the heartache; breakups were tough on everyone.
She switched the vacuum off and fell down onto the couch, staring up at the ceiling as the music continued to loop. She pulled a cigarette packet out of her pocket as lit one against her lips blowing out the smoke, watching it diffuse into nothing around the room. Smoking was something she did less ever since her and Mina broke up, they would smoke together everyday, as if it were a ritual but now she just kind of forgot due to the fact Mina wasn’t there to smoke with her until the natural craving of nicotine started to itch her skin. She missed it, another thing to add to the long list of what she missed about Mina, the nicotine rush didn’t feel the same now that Mina wasn’t there to rest her head on her shoulder to try and keep herself warm in the morning chill, both laughing about whatever random topic they spoke of. Nothing felt as great without her, life felt lacklustre and flat once again.
‘I thought I told you to not smoke in the apartment.’ Y/n sat up as she heard the door turn open, a tired looking Jungkook entering ‘smoke is a fucking pain to get out of the fabric.’
‘Sorry.’ Y/n shrugged, putting the tobacco back to her lips as if it were nothing- it was usual for her to dismiss his authority. ‘I vacuumed the floor.’
‘You missed a spot.’
‘Do it yourself then.’ Y/n yawned, pausing her music ‘have you found her yet?’
Mina did exactly what Y/n expected her to do as if it were meticulously planned out. The night Jungkook went looking for her she was no where to be found, no matter where he looked in her usual spots he couldn’t find her. It was giving Y/n the time she needed- although she wasn’t quite ready yet, in fact she hadn’t thought of anything.
‘Nope. She’s still missing.’ Jungkook replied starting to make himself some tea ‘and people are starting to notice me, today a guy came up to me and asked what apartment I lived in- I told him 4C since thats what I’m using as a base but then he just asked about you and where Mina could be.’
‘What did you say?’
‘I said that I have no clue about the previous resident or who Mina is, he seems worried about her.’
Y/n was also worried about Mina. This plan was not foolproof. Mina was somewhere out in the city hurting, she was in a vulnerable state in which she probably wasn’t thinking straight. She’d done this before, she was a strong girl who could take care of herself but it didn’t mean that Y/n wasn’t worried, like Sehun said one of these days she wouldn’t get so lucky.
‘But this isn’t about her, it’s about people noticing me’ Jungkook continued ‘I’m fucked if I become a familiar face.’
‘I could wait for her, they know me already.’
‘No. You shouldn’t even be asking me about it, this isn’t your case anymore- stick to your own jobs.’
‘Right.’ She sighed, unhappy with the denial; she had been trying to get information all week.
It was all beginning to feel hopeless. There were only three options and each seemed as far off as the rest. Her first thought was to try and talk Mingyu out of it and call off the job but that was risky, he knew too much and could easily end in failure. He also seemed dead set on revenge, while he had guilt his want for justice was stronger- she didn’t think he would crack. Her second thought was to try and talk Jungkook out of it but for obvious reasons that wouldn’t work, while he did care about Y/n he didn’t care about Mina no matter what she meant to Y/n- he’s determined enough to get it done no matter what, Y/n having feelings would just give him more drive. Lastly she could warn Mina, an idea she has had since the start although now warning Mina would be useless; Mina had no trust in her, even less so now that she had hurt her. There was no way she would listen to a word she said.
