After getting down at the bus stop, the five walked towards a cozy little house that looked like it was taken straight out of a muggle fairy tale, with Hermione in the lead, dragging Harry's hand with her. However, a slight hint of worry crossed Harry's face upon the thought of meeting the parents of his now-girlfriend, although he has only had nice encounters with Mr. and Mrs. Granger over the years he had known Hermione. "Come on Harry, the gate is open. Come inside." Hermione insisted. "Harry, are you worried that Mr. and Mrs. Granger will not approve of you? Don't be silly Harry. They'd Love you." Ginny assured.
"We'll not approve of who? Oh, and by the way, Hello dears, come inside." Mrs. Granger appeared in the doorway, much to Harry's dismay. "Richard... Hermione and her friends are here." Mrs. Granger called out to Mr. Granger, who appeared in the hallway a second later, holding up a power drill in one hand. "Oh, Hello sweetie, did you and your friends have a safe ride here?" Mr. Granger asked his daughter while giving her a warm hug. "Oh, careful Dad... might hurt someone with that. What were you doing anyways?" Hermione asked pointing at the power drill on his hand. "Nothing... It was supposed to be a small surprise for you. Couldn't finish it quickly enough. Now, won't you introduce your friends?" Mr. Granger asked.
"Richard dear, we know all these dearies don't we? This is Harry, Ron, Ginny and you must be George isn't that so dear?" Mrs. Granger asked. "Richard here is not good with faces." She added. That was followed by a bunch of "Hello Mr. and Mrs, Granger"s from the bunch. "Now Mia, why don't you take your friends to the backyard? I was halfway setting up the table. I'll bring the rest of the stuff over. " Mrs. Granger said to which Hermione nodded and the guys followed her to the backyard which had a nice view of the meadow below the sun was getting closer to setting over the meadow, adding a warm glow to the table laden with tea time treats of all sorts.
"Mia, huh... Pretty nickname for a pretty girl. I prefer 'Mione though... or how about Mine?" Harry whispered sneakily into Hermione's ear which made her blush like an idiot. "Harry!" she exclaimed while playfully hitting his shoulder. This exchange didn't go unnoticed by Hermione's parents who just came out to join the others, both rocking a knowing smirk.
"Well, what are you guys waiting for... dig in dearies." Mrs. Granger invited them all to enjoy the wonderful feast of evening tea that she had prepared. "Thank you, Mrs. Granger, you didn't have to do so much... All these taste delightful." Harry said looking at the couple. " Oh, No worries Harry... It's a pleasure." Mrs. Granger replied, smiling softly at him. Meanwhile, others including Ron, were stuffing their faces with sandwiches, scones biscuits, and cakes of all sorts. "Harry, would you mind passing me the cream?" Ron asked while struggling to get the jam from the other side where Ginny was, which caused Ron to spill his tea onto Hermione, who sat across from him. Which caused Hermione to shout out "Ronald, you idiot!" and she went in to clean herself. George and Harry helped clean the mess up while laughing at a now horrified Ron. "She's gonna hex me isn't she when she comes back out?" Ron asked causing another roar of laughter around the table. "I'll check up on her" Harry excused himself from the table.
Harry found Hermione by the kitchen sink where she was washing her hands and the spill seemed to have long gone, he assumed just by the flick of her wand. He sneaked up on her and snaked an arm around her waist, catching her off guard and sneaked a quick peck to her lips and said, "Poor Ronald thinks you're gonna hex him the minute you walk out." which earned a chuckle from Hermione, who was blushing from the sudden encounter, her anger at Ron far gone. She regained her composure and said, "I won't, but now we have another problem at hand, do you think my parents are not gonna notice?" "Well, they know we've been best friends for like forever, but yeah I understand... and I sure do hope I get their approval," Harry replied fidgeting through Hermione's brown locks. "They sure would love you, trust me," Hermione said while giving him a reassuring forehead kiss and went out once again with him, hand in hand.
"Look, 'Mione, I'm sorry, but I needed that pot of cream to complement these wonderful scones." Ron quickly added upon seeing the duo emerge from the kitchen. to which Hermione shrugged and laughed again with the rest of the lot. The evening tea passed with small talk, and they all helped Mrs. Granger clean up, and this time, they used magic to do the tasks quickly.
While everyone else was still out in the backyard, Harry and Hermione found themselves alone with her parents in the kitchen. "Mom, Dad, I need to tell you guys something." Hermione started, and Harry moved closer to her to show her his support. "Mr. and Mrs. Granger, I hope you will not object... and... um... approve..." Harry started, nervously. "Oh Get it over with dear, we know you and our Mia are together... and from what we've seen in the couple of hours we saw you together, you guys are perfect for each other. Besides, our little princess here has had a huge crush on you for a long time now." Mrs. Granger said almost jumping out of happiness, which brought a look of relief to Harry's face and a blush crept up the faces of the love birds. "Not so fast young man. No man can have my daughter's hand if they don't pass my test." Mr. Granger added, bringing a worried look yet again to Harry's face. "Oh no Dad you didn't mean it, did you? Poor Harry's about to melt!" Hermione started laughing to which Mr. and Mrs. Granger also joined. "Well, I guess I mean it kiddo. Now Harry why don't you come and help me finish that surprise for Hermione I was preparing earlier? I could use a magical hand." Mr. Granger said winking at Harry. Soon Harry followed Mr. Granger into the adjoining room and as soon as Hermione was about to follow them, she was stopped by her mother.
"Now, Mia, tell me does he make you happy? Do you see a future with him?" Mrs. Granger asked her daughter, her face full of concern. "Yeah, Mom. He has been nothing but a good friend to me all these years. He even hid his feelings when I was dating other guys and kept his distance when I was with Ron for a brief period as well. But, he never really left my side. Whenever I needed someone to hold on to, he was there. His was the brightest smile and the loudest applause whenever I felt happy. I truly see a future with him Mom... We both want the same things in life. He doesn't have to tell me by words, after all these years and what we've been through, we understand each other with just a glance. When he confessed yesterday, I knew that it was the moment I'd been waiting for... and the fact that he decided to tell you two just after a day of being official, means a lot to me as well." Hermione's ramble was cut off by her mother pulling her into a tight hug. "Well, I hope he treats you well Mia. You deserve all the happiness in the world my darling. Now, why don't we go and rescue the lad from your Dad?" Mrs. Granger said standing up.
