July 16, 2010:

“I can’t believe you won,” Austin uttered between deep breaths. We were both laying on the ground trying to catch our breaths after racing around the camp.

“I told you I was fast,” I turned my head to look at him, smirking, “but you didn’t believe me.”

“You told me fast, not a fast distance runner,” he challenged. Austin finally caught his breath and stood up.

“All’s fair in love and war,” I smirked. “And besides you made a bet and you have to honor that Mr.” I followed Austin’s example and pushed myself off the ground.

“Mr? Okay Miss, let’s go to the dock, I think everyone is over there.”

“Alright,” I agreed, “but I do not appreciate the sarcasm.” We started walking towards the dock until I saw everyone and started running.

I could hear Austin groaning in the distance, “Ugh, not this again.” When I got to the dock I saw Sebastian, Peyton, Isaac, Amanda, and a bunch of other people I really didn’t know. They didn’t really great me, just acknowledged that I was there and went back to their conversations.

The dock was painted a dark green, but you could see the wood under the chipping paint. It wasn’t anything special, it just a dock over a lake where most of the older campers hung out during free time.

I sat down next to Amanda on the floor when I saw Austin walking up the steps. I patted the seat behind me and called out, “Come on slow poke, it’s time to pay up.” He groaned again and reluctantly sat behind me and started giving me a back rub. It was a camp tradition to give backrubs to everyone. It wasn’t a romantic thing more like a punishment actually. We challenge people to darling I love you, mud fights, and other contests. Whoever loses has to give the winners backrubs. Today, since I won the race he had to give a backrub to me.

Everyone was talking amongst themselves when Peyton whined, “Come on let’s play truth or dare,” while making her bracelet. There were choruses of no’s, boo’s and other complaints. I noticed that Peyton’s deep red hair was pulled back in a loose pony tail. She was basically your average ginger with red hair, green eyes, and freckles.

“Yeah come on Pey, we aren’t 13 anymore,” Austin pointed out.

“You guys are jerk,” Peyton pouted, crossing her arms over her chest. “Here I am trying to make out last day of camp fun and-“

“La la la la la,” I practically yelled while trying to cover up my ears. I didn’t want to think about how this was our last day of camp. The age limit for going to Camp Lions- named after Steve Lions the founder, not the animal- is 16. Seeing that we are all 16 today is all of ours last days at camp ever.

“Aw, now you got Sophi all upset,” Austin said, patting my back like I was a little baby.

I slapped Austin’s hand away, “Stop it, and don’t treat me like I’m a wimp.” Everyone started laughing at me. “Why is that so funny?” I question, a little hurt from their reaction.

“Why are you so sensitive Sophi?” Isaac asked with a sarcastic look. I returned his look with an equally sarcastic smirk. His blue eyes stared into my brown ones, just waiting for me to laugh. It was a little undeclared laughing war. I tried to look at lake behind him, but it still didn’t work. I cracked and started laughing.
