Carlos, the top of her class, is sitting in a classroom, rushing to take notes, that she didn't hear what her friend beside her said. "Carlos, CARLOS!" said her best friend Ivy. "Hmmm...oh! What??!" stammered Carlos. She was disoriented, but she asked her friend to repeat what she had previously said. "I said that the animals, Professor. White has mentioned, are being kept captive."

Wow, that is very sad. Maybe I should do something. I don't know, maybe. Thought Carlos. She really didn't want to decide just yet, so she let it slide, for now.
It's after school, and Carlos decided to take the long route home; the route that went across the train tracks, and into the woods. At the end of the woods there are a group of homes all in a little circle, almost like a little community of homes.

Carlos' home was nestled just outside the little community of homes, right beside her best friend Ivy's home. And right behind them was the forest. They weren't allowed too deep into the forest alone unless an adult was present with them.

As Carlos was walking, she heard noises, weird noises, noises you don't hear in a forest. Carlos stopped, and listened. It sounded like someone was stomping around, checking the premises for trespassers; she didn't remember there was a security guard. She shrugged and continued walking. The noises seemed to be following her.

When she came to a small clearing, she saw a strange guy in a tight, leather suit, carrying a long, thin tubular looking object on his belt along with a taser gun. She backed up and ran where she just came from. But instead of heading toward the train tracks, she headed left, and then arrived behind a grey, sleek, black building.

It looked industrial, almost like it was a company. But she knew better; it was the Compound where they "study" lifeforms but really, they put them through torture devices. The person who was behind all this inhumane experiments was Dr. Zena. Nobody knew exactly what her goal was, but everyone knew that if this continued, there would be no more animals to experiment.

She arrived at the back entrance, forming a plan. She knew that by the end of the day the animals would be dead, or worse, a decoration on Dr. Zena's wall. She shuddered at the idea.

Think Carlos, think! What would be a good plan? Thought Carlos, with desperation. Her plan was to sneak up into the control room first, the only obstacle would be not getting caught. She would then trek into the so-called "sanctuary" and rescue the animals before it was too late.

Carlos entered the Compound hallway, and saw a corner tucked into a hidden nook. She creeped forward, and crouched, waiting to be sure the coast was clear. When she was sure the coast was clear, she ran and turned down a dark, musty hallway. It looked as if nobody ever used this hallway, but there were noises up ahead; this was a used hallway.

Carlos slowed to a walk and slouched against the wall closest to her. She was glad that the hallway was dark, because it was kind of like camouflage. Carlos heard security guards, maybe three of them, walking towards her. She slowed her breathing, to make it quieter. "I feel like there's someone here. Let's check just to make sure," said one of the guards. Carlos' face plummeted. Oh no! They know I'm here! Thought a very desperate Carlos.

Ivy was walking home when she heard her phone ping. She looked at her text message, and frowned. Her friend said that she was in the Compound and wanted her to join. She texted back, just as she heard a loud stomping coming her way. She quickly jumped into one of the bushes closest to her. She looked behind her, and saw a tall, grey and black, sleek building. The Compound! Realised Ivy. She ran towards it, and heard the security guards speaking. "I don't see anything." "Then look harder, you dummy!" yelled another guard. Oh no! Carlos is in trouble!  Thought Ivy with despair. She tried to follow the guards inside the building, but they turned around, as if knowing she was there behind them. She jump-dived for the bushes so that she wouldn't get caught. Oh well, there goes my attempt at trying to save Carlos. Ivy thought, as she was walking away.
