Republican Primary: The Race for Second Place

     As the morning sun catches the dew as it evaporates we witness the day many have been waiting for. Donald Trump’s interview with Tucker Carlson. As boss of a move it may be, we are still puzzled as to what will happen with the apparent treasure trove of indictments “the Don” faces against both federal and now state prosecutions. The numbers continue to rise for Trump, key indication of what has lead to this up close and personal chat the former president and former syndicated News anchor. Not to take away from, although it does, the resiliency of the other candidates and their campaigns are showing no sign of forfeiting as they prep to take the stage in Milwaukee.

     Dark horse and current runner up, Vivek Ramaswamy can be seen on a vast array of podcasts, news channels and campaign ran social media sites. Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, seems to have hit a road bump trying to get his campaign on track. It has been dismal at best. Struggles early on have given the success of Vivek an even stronger base, pulling scraps from Ron and Don both. What may be least surprising is the rest of the candidates and their “Trump’s bad, I’m good” routine with the expectation of picking up votes from those never Trumpers and democrats fed up with the blatant corruption their party continues to produce. Although the polls show movement, there is still a 27 point difference between Trump and the closest person to him.
     At Trump’s request, he has asked the candidates to step down and help the pursuit of injustice he faces in multiple cases. So far, checking the stats, zero candidates have taken him up on his offer. But what may seem the most obvious reason, “people just don’t like Trump” it's hard to argue his alarming poll numbers.
     While the debates are considered a great way to learn what each candidates platform represents, some feel they know what they’re getting with the 45th and for that reason alone is why Trump refuses to attend. He has also went as far to say he will forego the debates et al, confirming the original statement of “They know what they are getting.” Criticism isn’t the only backlash Trump received once announcing his absence. Many attendees also carried hope to see the real estate mogul turned politician, but with waking waters left behind from the riots the Milwaukee streets faced during  the summer of 2020 could disrupt an already fragile morality. Mike Pence, Chrispy Creame Chris Christy, and some highly mentionable and memorable whatever their names are, close out the slow-paced race to the bottom 1%. Accounts taken from mainstream media outlets criticize Trumps designed interview as it is set to broadcast at 9pm Wednesday. It will be held on Twitter (X), where most of Carlson’s post Fox News interviews have seen production.  A strong consensus is that Trump’s release of the interview is meant to impede on the debates themselves just to lower viewership as a means to “stick it to the man” or shaft Fox News ratings. Others see it as a “if he’s not participating, neither am I” philosophy regarding Biden and his attempt to forego democrats primary after announcing a run for a second term. Now, as we watch the debates only one question is asked by the thousands in attendance and millions watching at home: Who will be the runner-up.
