In the present...

I shot up out of bed. 'I hate having to relive that night...' I got up out of bed and grabbed the small bag that had been given to me by my mom around 6 years ago. 'Well, today's the day. I'm leaving home.' I put the bag on and glanced out the window. It was nearing autumn now. The leaves had just begun to change colors. I could faintly see my reflection in the window. My bright green spiky fur was easy for anyone to notice. I wore a tan backpack-style bag. While my left eye was amber yellow, my right was a darker gray. A noticeable scar ran just to the outside of my right eye. I turned away from the window and to the door.

I opened the door and walked out into the hall. Dust coated the floors and walls of the essentially abandoned house. I walked through the hall towards the back door. To the left was the kitchen, and to the right was the living room. Several old books sat on a bookshelf in the far right corner of the room. Right in between the two rooms was the back door of the house. I walked up to the door and opened it. Fresh air flowed in from outside. I took a deep breath before walking through the open door and out into the forest.

I took a quick glance at my surroundings. The forest was seemingly empty, the only moving objects being the swaying tree branches and leaves. It was quiet too, the only sounds being the wind and the leaves. I opened my bag and pulled a map out. I looked at it and located where I was headed. The small village of Vioclear. Vioclear was the closest town to the house and was where I'd planned to hopefully find a house, or 'den' as I'd heard it called. It seemed to be a fair distance away, maybe a day or two journey. I folded the map back up and put it back in my bag. I turned towards the surrounding forest and walked into the trees.

A few hours later...

The sun had started to set. I was now looking for somewhere to rest for the night, like a cave. There didn't seem to be much of anything nearby though, only trees. I was beginning to get nervous when I heard a twig snap behind me, followed by a low growl. I froze. 'Oh Arceus... what am I gonna see when I turn around...' I slowly turned my head to look behind me, only to be greeted by 3 Mightyena growling at me. 'Wait, this is Mightyena territory... oh... oh no...' Just as one of them started moving towards me, I sprinted off. I could hear them chasing me, and they weren't all that far behind me. I threw an electro ball behind me as I ran and heard a couple of yelps come from my pursuers. I ran a bit faster, nearing a small clearing. I didn't hear them behind me anymore. I ran out into the clearing.

There was a small pond, as well as a cave. With what little daylight was left, I couldn't see inside. I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to risk walking into a potential Mightyena den. I edged closer to the entrance. As I reached the entrance, I fired  a bolt of electricity into the cave. The bolt lit up the cave enough for me to see, even if just for a few seconds. It seemed to be empty. I slowly walked into the cave as the bolt hit the back wall and dissipated. I laid down not too far into the cave, but far enough that I wouldn't be seen without needing a closer look. I got as comfortable as I could and fell asleep.

A/N

And it's finally out! It's not perfect, but it's better than I was expecting. If anyone has any suggestions for things I should change or keep in mind while writing later chapters, do let me know :3 ! I might start work on chapter 2 tomorrow, that one should be fun to write. Anyway, hope ya'll are enjoying it so far, see ya!
