Sydney in the mm^

Sydney

As I gazed out of the window, my stomach fell to my ass looking at the line and table outside of the band room. Today was registration for the plus size dance team that's a part of the band. With orientation and registering for classes out the way, I've been working too hard to make sure I am ready for auditions coming up in a few days. It's very rare that you see a successful plus size dance team that performs with a great band. I knew I had the talent but there's so much more to it than that. I hope I can make the cut.

There were so many people out here today, but it's understood because the band members have to register for pre-drill (college band camp) and auxiliary has to register for auditions that eventually lead into predrill. I park my car and unlock my phone to facetime my homeboy, Aj. He's a freshman as well and also plays in the band. We met in a freshman group chat that was made before graduation in May.

You know how it is, everyone trying to make friends, study buddies, and pick roommates as early as possible. I didn't know him, but he stayed close to my hometown, and we just clicked really.
We've been locked in ever since. And no, before you look at me like that, no, it isn't even like that. I mean he's fine and all, reallllly fine, but when I say we really clicked on a friendship type of level, we really did. I talk to him about everything. And vice versa. He's like the protective big brother I've never had.

"Yoooo!" He yelled into the phone once it picked up.

"Where you at playboy?" I joked.
"I'm already inside, talking to my bro, I already registered. I'm just waiting on you to finish." I sighed because I did not want to stand in this line by myself. Not at all.

"light, I'm getting out now. Hopefully it doesn't take long." I said into the phone while grabbing my purse and folder with all my information in it.

"Call me when you're finished, I want to introduce you to somebody." He spoke.
My head snapped to the phone. "Aj I swear you better not be trying to play cupid. I don't have time for your shit today."

He's always trying to hook me up with somebody and every single time, it's like he finds the crustiest nigga he can find. Like he picked them up right off the side of the street.

"Girl, shut up, it's ain't even that type of time! This my brother from another mother. He don't want yo ass anyway lil girl." He said into the phone laughing at me rolling my eyes at him.
"Please, any man would be lucky to have me." I said, matter of fact like.
"You damn skippy. "He mumbled licking his lips.
"EWWWWW!" I said hanging up the phone. He plays entirely too much. I literally could never take him seriously.
-
After about five more minutes of getting myself together, I got out of the car and headed to the back of the line which had actually dwindled down a bit. I stood there on my phone, slowly moving forward inch by inch until I was right at the front of the line.

"Name please." The lady said sitting down at the table.
"Sydney Parker." I stated.
"Have you already paid, or no?" She asked, looking up at me.
"Yes, I mailed my money order in a few weeks ago. She started looking around at different sheets on the table until her eyes locked on what looked like a list.
She scanned it for a second until she stopped, "Parker, Sydney?" She asked, I guess confirming a name that her finger hovered over.

'Yes ma'am."
She nodded and proceeded to grab a packet of information and 5 wristbands. she handed them over to me and said, "Fill these slips out, there's a medical form, emergency contact form, information about your dorm and classes as well. The back of the packet has the information you will need for the first few days of auditions, as well as the rest of band camp if you make it through. Find a seat inside, fill it out, bring it back to me, and you should be good to go love." She spoke. She sounded really nice, as well as she was really pretty. Not that that matters, I'm just really observant.
