Cross Country is not my sport, I like soccer and lacrosse, but my mom is trying to get me into new things. there's guys on this team who girls would die for, believe me, its happened a couple times before, I mean, I'm good looking, but not dreamy, I'm fit, but not ripped, I'm athletic, but not an athlete. I mean sure, I have shaggy, honey-colored hair and pale green eyes, but every girl at Riverwood High has turned me down, every year, since middle school. What am I supposed to do, I'm a junior now. My eight-pack flatters none, and my ability to run a 5:05 mile impresses nada, translation, none. I walk to the field behind the school to see a wave of people have arrived, great, because about 95% of them are girls. I scan the sea of faces for Todd, my best friend who joined this sport with me. Until I see the backside of a girl - about 5'3, black hair in a ponytail, which now goes to just below her shoulder blades, wearing bright pink running shorts and a neon green tank top. Its her, the girl in the little black dress, she's here, on my team now. And according to coach, she's my partner for the entire season.
