Scott looks out towards the small town. Stiles is next to him, he has been uncharacteristically quiet all night. Scott plans on giving him another hour to come clean about it on his own before asking Stiles what's wrong.
Stiles opens his mouth to say something, then shuts it again. That's what, the third time he's done that this past hour? Something big must be on his mind if he's so uncomfortable saying it. He turns towards his friend, Stiles looks back at him. Then the dam breaks.
"You're like, my best friend in the whole world, you know that?" Stiles speaks up. Scott nods as Stiles starts talking again. "So I want you to know how amazing you are. You're like totally amazing, and cool, and funny, and kind, and-"
"I get it, what's up?" Scott cuts him off. He doesn't need five minutes of unending praise said in the most repetitive manner.
"Well, I just need to say it. Right? So spending time with you is honestly the best way I can spend my time. Like when we were younger, you were the good influence to my bad influence. Do you get me?" Stiles is going to ramble for at least thirty minutes if Scott doesn't figure out what Stiles is freaking out about and cuts to the chase for him.
"Yes, I get you." Scott smiles, laughing softly about his nervous friend. He hopes it's nothing too serious. And more something along the lines of 'remember that signed action figure you have? Well had 'cause I broke it?'. Scott can handle something of his being broken. But Stiles always freaks out about it. It's frankly adorable.
"Okay, so you've always influenced me... where was I going with that one? Doesn't matter. You and I are a team." Stiles vaguely speaks, connecting his hands for emphasis. "Like a really good team. Right? And teams have to stick together no matter what- well they don't have to. That's not the point!" Stiles corrects loudly, pointing towards Scott as if he suggested it was.
"Teamwork, yes. I'm familiar." Scott can't wipe the smile off his face. Stiles' heart is racing right now. Scott gets the sneaking suspicion that whatever Stile is anxious about isn't actually bad. Otherwise, he probably would have said something by now to tip Scott off to it.
"So if you have a really good team, one of two people- or more, I don't judge. You can... we're not doing this one either." Stiles mutters, taking a pause from his rambling to come up with his next half-thought-out analogy.
"Maybe you can go back to the first thing you were saying?" Scott suggests, Stiles points to Scott again, ready to start speaking again. This is a crush thing, isn't it? Stiles' heart always beats faster when he's near Scott. It totally has to be a crush thing.
"So we are best friends, and we do everything together. Almost everything. And I want to... stay best friends forever. Right? And I think we are a great coup- we have a great friendship. And we should keep that going." Oh, it's definitely a crush thing. That's so cute.
"Is that all you wanted to say?" Scott laughs. Smiling across from Stiles as he watches him fidget nervously as he sits on the Jeep
"Yeah, totally." Stiles lies. Scott smiles wider. Stiles can be stubborn, so he has to approach this head-on.
"So, nothing about your crush on me?" Scott beams at Stiles, who is staring at Scott, mouth agape. Scott chuckles again.
"How long have you known?" Stiles questions. His eyes are wide and his heart is somehow beating even faster than it was before. Scott's glad Stiles has a crush on him. He's mildly annoyed however that it took so long to figure it out.
"I didn't really, not until you just lost the ability to shut up." Scott teases. Stiles lets out an affronted gasp at the playful accusation. Stiles looks down at his feet, wanting to avoid further embarrassment, at least that's what Scott is guessing. Scott rounds the edge of the Jeep and stands in front of Stiles, placing his hands on either side of the avoidant man.
"So... are you going to kiss me? Or just sit around all night moping?" Stiles' head suddenly shoots up and smacks right into Scotts. Both men laugh for a moment, as they rub the new bumps on their heads.
"Ow, dude." Stiles almost giggles. It's a cute laugh, whatever it is. And his smile makes Scott's heart flutter. He looks into Stiles' eyes. It's a little bit hard to make out the color in the setting sun, but they still look absolutely gorgeous. Stiles eyes meet his gaze. But they once again widen in fear. His heart beating at a breakneck pace.
Scott decides if he doesn't take the initiative, no one will. So he quickly leans forward. Their noses bump, and then their teeth do, It's all around unpleasant, and he probably shouldn't have caught Stiles off guard like that. Both men return to another giggle fit
"That was a mess!" Stiles laughs, as he wipes tears from the edge of his eye. Scott wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his life just like this. Sitting together and laughing while maybe kissing. It's fun.
Stiles' hand moves to Scott's cheek, and Stiles leans in. His hand allows both the ability to prepare. Their lips meet softly, and they begin moving together. It takes a moment, but they find a common ground. Each kiss is as gentle as the one before, and Scott feels like he is melting.
Who needs 'maybe kissing' when you've got 'most definitely kissing'? That beats it out by a long shot. An eternity like this. Making out at make-out point as Stiles sits on the hood of his Jeep and leans down to- that's definitely his tongue, fuck. He really could do this forever. Unfortunately, they slowly part ways. Leaving Scott wishing for more.
"Much better without the teeth." Stiles mutters in a playful tone. Breaking the silence he was no doubt anxious about.
"Shut up," Scott whispers and pulls him into another, deeper kiss. Neither will be quick to forget this night. Scott will make sure of that.
