Not to get too far ahead of ourselves. I am Rebecca. My brothers and sisters in a loving way, call me Reb for short, I like to believe because I am a rebel. Peace baby, Love and understanding. To say I was a hippie was an understatement.
Handmade and natural were sacred words among us. As a commune we crafted by doing macrame, beading, all sorts of homespun things. I made candles in the most creative ways like using pancake syrup bottles, and making necklaces out of sea shells. It was the Sixties, what did you expect?
The purity of our natural essence showed in our clothes. We wore peasant blouses, granny skirts, and dresses with paisley and flower patterns. We barely ever wore shoes unless they were sandals. We were primarily barefoot with flowers in our hair. We also shopped at the salvation army and the army surplus stores for soldiers uniforms. The only bags we carried were made of hemp.
There was of course the serious issue of that nasty little war in Vietnam. What bought the people and the music together was we all wanted to stop the war! We protested and rallied against any institution that supported it. Johnson was in the oval office, and law officials were the enemy. Racial inequities were in need of a remedy.
