Long time ago, before humanity was a thing and angels knew to fly; God himself
had sent down to Earth, a semi-god. With the ability of creating life as he pleased. He was known as Adem, one of the first angels that God had created. However, it was
decided to change his appearance, his wings were taken away and his soft, white
Skin was changed into that of a ‘human’ more robust and firm. At last, his hair; it was changed from the beautiful, blonde, silky angelican hair, to a pinkish color, and its
length tripled in size, long enough to touch the floor. His eyes remained the same;
white as pearls, able to capture anyone’s attention. Soon after, Adem was surrounded by all the angels and younglings, all praising and complimenting his looks. Adem
wasn’t the most social angel, he was always attentive to the orders from his lord, but
he made sure to be thankful towards all the compliments,
‘Thank you everyone’ he said under a quiet, soft whisper.
After a while of getting used to his new appearance and to the fact that he wasn’t able
to fly anymore, he took rest at the sacred lake near the shiny, golden heaven gates that
were still under construction, pondering what his new destiny was all about, and if he
would make great things for the new mortals that were soon-to-be born below the
heavens.
‘Trapped in your thoughts again, Adem?’ Cupid said,
‘ah, lord Cupid. I wasn’t aware you were back. I thought you were still with the
younglings’ Adem said while pushing his hair away from his face.
‘Well, I was. But the Holy Mothers said I had worked enough for today so I chose to
take a sudden break.’
Adem looked up at Cupid as his biggest admirer, he would be always spreading love
and kindness to everyone, making sure everything flowed in harmony, Adem was once
again lost in his thoughts.
‘Well?’ Cupid said as he arranged his arrows and bow: ‘are you ready for your new
life? You seem quite hesitant.’
Adem looked at the river, and quietly said: ‘Has the Lord mentioned anything about
the new me, Lord Cupid?’
‘Perhaps he has.’ Cupid said as he walked away.
‘Wait! Lord Cupid!’ Adem rushed and got in front of his path ‘Can’t you, lord
Cupid, tell me at least the slightest of what’s waiting for me down there? Am I
supposed to not know perhaps?’ He said as he caught his breath, realizing, too, that
angels can run fast due to their wings for longer without getting exhausted.‘What do you think, Adem? Should you or should you not know?’ Cupid said as he
kept walking.
Adem decided not to follow him anymore, but he was certain that Cupid knew
something, even if it was insignificant, but he was still very curious.
As the sun set upon the clouds, Adem approached the sanctuary that was empty at
that time due to the angels that had to take care of the young ones and guard the
edges of heaven that were yet to be boarded up.
‘Good afternoon, Adem.’ Said Latifa, one of the Holy Mothers, ‘Lord Cupid
mentioned that you were quite interested in your new future.’
‘I am’ Adem replied while standing up.
‘Well, Lord Cupid likes to mess around with the angels from time to time. Perhaps he
was doing that with you earlier.’
‘Oh, I was not aware of that.. But does that mean he doesn’t know anything?’
‘Yes, I am sorry about that, Adem. But you shouldn’t worry, I'm sure the Lord has
something good prepared for you.’ Latifa flew away, leaving Adem with so many
questions to ask; but he decided the best was just to wait. That night was Adem's last
night in the heavens, making him sleepless and roll up around the clouds trying to
find a comfortable position to sleep. Eventually, he managed to stay asleep for a while,
but the sound of footsteps and a sudden shoulder tap woke him up.
‘Adem,’ said one of the Archangels that was taking care of the younglings that slept,
‘The Lord wants to see you. It’s time.’
Adem could barely understand what was going on, his vision was blurry and his head
felt heavy. After fully waking up, the Archangel took him to the Lord's throne where
he standed in all his glory.
‘Adem,’ God said as he approached him, ‘you’ll bring to yourself and the lands below
great care and wisdom towards all the new mortals that will be created. I am very
proud of you, son.’
‘Thank you my Lord, I will make sure to not bring dark times to you and the new
mortals.’ The Lord then proceeded to call Angelico; a shorter than average angel, very
skinny and with his eyes full of confusion.
‘Y-yes my Lord?’ Angelico stuttered and his voice could be barely heard. It was clear
that he was insecure of himself and afraid.
‘I will send you with Adem for you to keep him company on the lands below.’ The
Lord said as Angelico just stared at Adem in fear.
‘My Lord,’ one of the Archangels interrupted; ‘Forgive me, but Angelico cannot be
sent with Adem, he is too young and can barely defend himself- he will be beaten
down there in less than a second. It’s preferable and more secure to send an Archangel
with Adem, it’ll be able to keep both of them safe at any time.’‘Nonsense.’ God said; ‘Any of my angels, no matter height nor age, is able to take care
of themselves and everyone around them. No exceptions.’
With that said, Angelico’s appearance changed too. Same as Adem, he lost his wings
and his angelican features.
‘How are you feeling, Angelico?’ Adem asked, concerned that it might be too much
for the poor, young angel.
Angelico didn’t say anything, he just kept staring at himself through the mirrors of
the palace. Adem approached him quietly but didn’t say a word, he knew how it felt
and he didn’t want to startle the young one.
‘Are we stuck like this now?..’ Angelico asked as his voice trembled.
‘I’m afraid we are, but I don’t think the wings and feathers describe who we truly are,
perhaps it’s our actions, no?’
‘Well said, Adem.’ Cupid said.
‘Oh, Lord Cu-’
‘L-LORD CUPID?!’ Angelico interrupted Adem as he quickly hid behind him, afraid
of being noticed.
‘What’s the matter?’ Adem and Angelico whispered to each other. ‘I’m sorry but I've
just never seen Lord Cupid up close… he’s so pretty…I'm scared of what he might
think of me now that I'm wingless..’
‘I don't’ think he’ll really mind…’
‘I sure won’t mind.’ Cupid said as he approached the boys, he kneeled down in front
of them and focused his attention on Angelico who was still hiding from him.
‘What’s your name, young one?’ Cupid asked but Angelico was too shy to answer
back.
‘Hm? What’s the matter?’
‘Angelico, Lord Cupid, his name is Angelico.’ Adem said as he helped Angelico get up
so Cupid could see him better.
‘Angelico? What a pretty name.’ Cupid said as he gave him a soft warm smile. ‘As you
know, I'm Cupid; The angel of love, trust, and truth. It's such a pleasure to meet you.’
Angelico’s face turned bright red as he tried to say something in return but he would
stutter so much it was incomprehensive.
Cupid chuckled.
‘It’s okay, you don’t need to say anything.’
After that, a sudden silence broke out into the whole palace and its hallways, the
sound of trumpets playing all over as the angels came over to see what was happening.
Soon the cloud started to spread apart, revealing the new lands below. This is it. My new life reveals upon my eyes, and it is my responsibility to make out
most of it.Adem thought to himself as he looked down to the land. He looked over to
Angelico who looked widely concerned.
‘Everything will be okay, I promise.’ He said to Angelico as they both looked down.
‘I feel strange. I don’t think I like this.. How many creatures are down there?’
‘None,’ God said.
‘The lands below are brand new, they have the bare essentials to make the new
mortals able to live. Of course, if more complicated life is created, that would be
Adem’s job to make the lands sustainable for it. But it is better to start small, you
Adem, aren’t yet aware of the potential your powers have. Use it for good.’
‘I will my Lord. I swear to you, that I, Adem, will only create creatures of good that
contribute to the lives of the mortals.’
‘Good, and you Angelico, you must swear to my name that you will always remain
loyal to Adem until the end of times, you will not only be his companion, but his
guardian angel.’
‘I-I swear.. I swear to be loyal to you my Lord and Adem.’ Angelico and Adem looked
at each other for a brief moment then smiled at each other, knowing their bond
would never be broken. As they were getting ready to descend, Angelico was given a
journal; were he would record everything that he and Adem do.
They started to move toward the opening when the clouds formed stairs all the way
down to the lands, they started to walk down but got interrupted;
‘Adem.’ God said; ‘there are things you must know before you go. First, you need to
know that any mortal or creature you create must be blessed by you or else they will
become wicked and bring sinnery onto your world.’
‘Write that down, Angelico.’ Adem said, ‘Ah, yes yes…’ Angelico started to write
everything God would say, even if it wasn’t important.
‘At last, you must know, to your life there will come two entities, one will be
responsible for all the peace. Sort of a… balance, if you might say. The second will
bring your whole reign down to nothing but ashes. You must take responsibility for
your actions from now on, bless you, son and good luck.’ He blessed Adem and
Angelico for the last time, then they took off.
