Chapter 12 • Thoughts
I sit up from my bed breaking out in a cold sweat. 'Was that... All just a dream? Did he really just kiss me?' I think. 'No no no no this can't be real.' I messily change and run to Itsuki's dorm room to make sure he's still okay.
"ITSUKI! ITSUKI ARE YOU OKAY?!" I yell.
"Ngh... What? You can come inside. Just close the door." I noticed I had just woken him up. I step inside and shut the door behind me. We stand in silence for a few seconds, then I hug him.
"I'm glad you're okay Itsuki..."
"D-did something happen?" He says after I finally let go of him, he still sounds tired.
"I just dreamt that something terrible happened to you.."
"Like what?" He sits up from his bed.
"Well, uh so..." I start. "I woke up in my room and you were sitting right beside me, and you made me breakfast, then you gave me a box that you propo-" I say quickly, now out of breath. "Uhm, I'll explain later."
"Jeez, are you okay?"
"Uhm, I don't know..." We stand in silence again.
"Well I'm glad you're awake. That must've been a nightmare." He hugs me and seems to wait for something. I sit on the bed with him. "Do you want to go on the apartment rooftop?" I smile. "The sun is coming up."
He looks like he's focused on something else. "What? Oh! Uhm, no uh, what?!"
"I asked if you wanted to go to the rooftop." I tilt my head.
"OH! UH, I thought you asked something else..." He whispers.
"...Oh. Well, do you?" I ask again.
"Well, you did just wake me up." Itsuki lays back down on the bed and silently asks me to do the same.
"Uhm, okay..." I awkwardly lay down. "Why?"
He looks at the ceiling. "I don't know. Can you tell me about your dream? I can take it, no matter how unrealistic."
"Well, okay, if you're sure." I start to explain the story, I pause right after he cuts the vines off my face.
"And then, you uhm..." I blush.
"What? Did I do something weird?"
"Yeah... Uhm." I look at him. "You... Kissed me."
He immediately blushes, and tries to avoid eye contact. "Oh, I uh, did?
"You were acting weird the whole dream..." I grimace. "Like calling me 'sleepy bear', and 'Kai-Kai'."
"I would never call you that! We're not, uhm, you know, dating..." He says.
"Maybe we can go to the rooftop now?" I suggest. "You seem a lot more awake now."
"SEEM?! You just told me I kissed you! That doesn't creep you out?!"
"Well, no..." I mumble to myself.
"Anyways, I uh, don't want to go up there now. I'm creeped out right now."
A jolt hits my stomach. 'Did I do something wrong? Something to hurt him?' I hate myself so much now.
"Kaito? You look pale all of a sudden, are you okay?"
"Uhm, did I do something wrong?"
"No! Why would you think that? This is just a lot for a night owl. I just woke up." He stops. "Well, you made me, but you know what I mean."
"So, should I go or-"
"Yes, sorry, just let me have some time in the morning from now on."
I sigh. "Okay." I sit up from the bed and get off. I frown, knowing I made him mad, even if he won't admit it. I walk outside the room, and pause. "See you later Itsuki." I close the door and head to the lobby, then outside to the fire exit stairs. I look around to make sure no one sees me, and snap my fingers. I'm on the roof of the apartment building.
I walk over to the side of the roof, and sit with my legs hanging off the edge.
'Thank you, Itsuki.'
I feel tears fill my eyes. I can't hold it in anymore. Even if I fall, I can't die in this world anyways, right? I pull out my phone and I open my conversation with Itsuki. I read our texts. 'Jeez, now that I think about it, he really hates me, doesn't he.' I bring my legs up onto the roof. I stare down at the road over 200 feet below me. I imagine what would happen if I fell from this height. I wipe my tears from my face and stand up.
I jump.
"KAITO, NO!" Someone behind me yells, but it is muffled, and I can't tell who.
I look down and realize the ground isn't getting any closer to me, I stopped falling. I look up.
"KAITO!! KAITO, ARE YOU OKAY?!" Someone yells; my vision too blurry to see who. I realize whoever this is, grabbed my hand so I wouldn't fall.
"W-Who are you?" I ask.
"No time!" They try to pull me up.
"Just let me fall, t-trust me." I say.
"Of course not! Why would I do that?"
A few seconds later he pulls me up into their lap and onto the roof. My vision slowly goes back to normal.
"ITSUKI?!" I notice he's crying.
"Kaito... Why?" He hugs me tight.
"Hey uhm, I-Itsuki?" I say after he finally lets go of me.
"Oh, uh, yeah? Is something wr-"
