Christmas was coming. And so was Medea's Birthday.
"You'll adore the present I got for you this year." Daphne grinned at her as the girls walked down the stairs to the Slytherin Common Room.
"I adore the presents you get me every year." Medea said, quickly descending the stairs one step at a time.
"Yes but you'll adore it extra this year." Daphne beamed. "It's delightful, truly. Just wait till you see the birthday present I got you - and the Christmas one too."
Pansy sniffed. "I bet my gift is better."
Daphne sneered. "It isn't."
The girls glared at each other - playfully - but with a bit of a competitive fire behind their eyes as well.
"It isn't a competition." Medea said, amused.
"But if it were, I would win without a doubt." Draco declared, appearing from behind them.
The girls immediately got into an argument with him, and the three of them squabbled all the way to the Great Hall.
While those three argued, Medea fell into step with Theodore Nott and Blaise Zabini.
"Just so you know," Theo said, "my present will certainly be the best."
"Will it?" Medea raised an eyebrow, a smile on her lips. "Well, there's never been a year where I haven't enjoyed your gifts, Theo. You always know exactly what I love to read."
The boy shrugged, though a proud smile danced on his own lips. "Of course. I look forward to your Christmas gift this year as well."
Medea smiled. "I do believe you'll enjoy it."
As the friend group made their way down, they came across a certain Gryffindor trio, and the unquestionable figure of Rubeus Hagrid.
Draco, unable to stay out of anything, spoke up. "What's this? Hoping to earn a little extra money for your family, Weasley? I didn't realize Hogwarts paid for community service."
"Draco." Medea warned.
The boy scowled, sulking like a child as the group walked by without any other insults exchanged.
"The power she holds." Hermione admired as the group of Slytherins walked away.
"Isn't she wonderful?" Harry sighed, staring after her dreamily.
Ron, Hermione and Hagrid exchanged looks.
"Someone's in love." Hermione teased.
"Am not." Harry deefended. "She's just...very attractive."
"She's a Black." Ron shook his head. "A pureblood heiress, Harry. A slimy, Slytherin snake. Don't get your hopes up."
"Indeed." Hagrid laughed. "She's a Black. Potters and Blacks - it's inevitable, Ronald. There's no point in trying to stop it, they'll end up with one another for sure."
"What do you mean, Potters and Blacks?" Ron frowned.
Hagrid tried to stammer out a response, but was saved by Harry who turned bright red. "It's not like that."
All three of them turned their head disbelievingly towards the blushing boy. "It isn't?"
"Right." Hermione deadpanned.
"I mean, she is the most beautiful witch in school—" at his friends' looks, Harry cleared his throat. "But that's just a well-known fact—"
"Hm?" Hermione raised an eyebrow.
