He found a parking spot right next to his apartment, so he turned down the radio and spoke "We're here"
She looked out her window and smirked "I'm only now realizing I have never been to your place before!" She pretended to complain, an almost cartoonish offended expression on her face. He laughed "And you've been to mine like... several times" She added
"Two" He protested.
"That's several! I feel in no control of the situation and it's totally excruciating!"
"Well, maybe that's good, you shouldn't always have the upper hand, you know?"
"Yeah, sure! You say that because you want the upper hand!"
"It's for the better, don't you see yourself? You agonizing already."
"Yeah, totally, I could rip my hair out right now"
"See?"
"So? What should I expect? Is it star wars themed? Should I expect a full sized death trooper like in How I Met Your Mother?" She said as they walked out of his car.
"That was a stormtrooper!" He made her laugh "I love How I Met Your Mother"
"Me too!" she exclaimed "But I still can't get over how terrific the end is!"
He opened the front door "I like the end"
She gasped audibly "What?"
"I mean, I loved Robin and Barney together, but it was clear they were better off as friends"
"That doesn't mean Ted has to go back to her! Not after his wife he said was the only love of his life died!"
"He loved Robin more than he loved Tracy"
"He didn't love her! That's what bugs me! Tracy and him were so perfect together! And he really loved her! But with Robin... He only liked the idea of this unapproachable divine woman. He didn't see her for who she was, like Barney did." No one ever really wanted to hear her rant about her favorite show before, it felt nice.
"I don't think Barney did either."
They took the stairs, even though the elevator was completely empty. They both, unconsciously, wanted more time to talk before they got to his door.
"Why's that?"
"I feel like... He saw himself in her. And they are very alike, that's why they didn't work"
"You think a couple is doomed if they're too much alike?"
"Kind of" He said "If you can't learn anything from the person you're sharing a life with, what's the point?"
"Yeah I get that, I think learning from each other is a big part of a healthy relationship but if you're too different you'll never be comfortable, like, you will never be still, and settled, like Ted and Zoey."
"Yes, totally. I think that's why it's so hard to find your person. You've got to se yourself in them, but also see something else, unknown. If you wanna be with someone identical as you, you might as well be alone"
"But also... Love might play a factor on it, too, right? I mean, it's not like everyone calculates the person they're seeing to make sure they're the person they need in their life. Sometimes it just happens, right?"
"I don't know" He said "My longest relationship was six months long" She laughed "You've got more experience than I do"
"Yeah... I guess. I was in a two year long relationship, but I don't think I ever loved him. And I don't think he ever loved me. We just liked the raw emotions. And he liked fucking other girls and sending my personal information to deuxmoi so... I don't think I'm the one to talk about stable relationships"
He didn't know what to say, it was recurring for her to speak openly about uncomfortable themes without hesitation, she would regret it afterwards.
He only nodded and said: "Conclusion is: It should've been Victoria"
She laughed "A hundred percent"
His apartment wasn't star wars themed, much to her disappointment. It was spacious and had large windows, she figured it would be very bright in the morning.
"It's very nice" She turned her head to face him.
He chuckled "Thanks. Even tho I would've tidied it up a little if had know you'd be coming"
"You don't have to. I've seen you sleeping on my shower floor, I don't think dirty laundry could scare me away"
"Everyday I discover new embarrassing things I did that day" He laughed
She laughed, and so did he before he realized she was awkwardly holding her coat on her hands.
"Oh sorry! Let me" He took it and hung it by the door. "You might want some clothes, right? I can lend you some"
"It would be great if you could" She laughed "This set isn't the most comfortable"
She followed him to his bedroom, he told her to have a seat on the bed as he look through his closet, trying to find something that might fit her.
"These are the only pants that won't fall off I think" he showed her his old uniform, she cracked up. "I'm really sorry, but it's the only thing I have"
"They're alright, don't worry" So she took them, he handed her a band t-shirt. Or maybe it was movie. It was so worn out she couldn't tell.
She was left alone in his room while he went to the bathroom to change his clothes, too.
She didn't take half the time he took to put on the clothes, sho she discreetly took a look around the room.
Something in his bedside table caught her eye. It looked like a knife, a meat knife. It freaked her out, so, the moment he came out of the bathroom, she asked him.
"Is that a knife in you table?" Surprise was obvious in her voice.
"Yeah" He answered, totally nonchalant.
"Why? Are you a murderer or something?" They walked to his living room
He laughed "I don't know, I like to be safe. Someone could break in or something"
"I'm pretty sure it's more dangerous to have a weapon in your house when someone breaks in" She said like she read about it, when actually, she saw it on TV.
They sat down on the couch "You wanna watch a movie?"
She tried not to smile when she suggested "Could we watch Tangled?"
He laughed "Sure, I'll make popcorn"
She smiled as she watched his back walk to the kitchen.
