The skylark of raindrops is a thought that tingles the mind, or so I was told.
There I stood in the mud, dripping and freezing, on the side of the curb. Tingles the mind my ass, if anything I'm tingling for the warmth of a fire. I seriously couldn't understand, why I was the one stuck out in the rain. I hate rain, come to think of it- I hate everything.
I can't wait to get back and give Jade a piece of my mind, especially since it was her shift. I guess this is why the others say I'm soft, apparently I give in to easily. Well ok, I do give in to easily. I mean it's not my fault, that I look out for my fellow reaper. But I can't complain, considering I'm stuck with them forever. All five hundred of them.
I shivered slightly as I pulled my jacket over my shoulders, well it wasn't any use now considering I was already wet. There you have it, the daily life of a reaper. Standing in the rain, standing in the mud oh and I almost forgot- standing in puddles. What a joy, my next few hundred years will be.
Funny how Jade had asked me to cover for her, when I know she's off with Jared. Aka: The new guy. He's only been with us a couple of days, and Jades already got him wrapped around her little finger. It's my fault, I let her manipulate me all the time. Just because I thought I could have someone to watch my back, but boy was I wrong. Jade is at least sixty years older then me, and acts like she's three. Oh damn she pretty old. Wait, what does that make me? An old fart?
My head snapped up as I saw a couple sharing an umbrella, walking down the street. At least they were smart enough to bring an umbrella, maybe I could snag theirs. I could do that, considering they can't see me.
Mm... Nah. I'm good. My eyes followed them as they crossed the road, and then disappeared into a home near by. I glance down at my watch and tap my foot impatiently, he should have been here by now. Fate is never wrong, though I'm starting to have my doubts.
I felt like a nap and if this guy would hurry up, I could have it.
It was almost as though Fate was slapping me in the face, as my next target emerged from the bar across the road. "Robert Peterson- 45, a drunk, criminal history. Nothing out of the usual." I muttered as I crossed the road, making my way over to were Robert was slumped against a pole. The cold air whipped at my hair, as I stood above his crumpled figure.
"Hey Robert, how you doing?" I asked him in a sweet voice, God I hate my life. The man slowly lifted his head, and looked me straight in the eyes. "How do you know who I am, pretty lady?" Robert asked, as he began to hiccup uncontrollably. "Well you see I'm here to kill you! Doesn't that sound fun?" I asked in a cheerful voice, wow Tegan way to go. I mentally face palmed myself, as Robert tried to back away from me.
"I don't want to die!" Robert whispered, trying to stand up. I just rolled my eyes, "You really are pathetic." I murmured into his ear, his eyes widened as I lifted him up and slung him over my shoulder. "What! What are you doing?" He asked. I didn't reply, I just carried on walking down the street. "The sky looks really nice tonight, don't you think Robert?" I asked him, not expecting an answer. "Yeah it does, it's so pretty, and sparkly an-" I cut him off, he was off his head. "Thanks Robert." Way to ruin my night, actually my night was ruined when Jade asked me to cover for her. Oh well, I might as well make the most of it.
Humming a tune, I strolled into an empty alleyway. This place is perfect, I thought happily. Scum like him deserves to die in a place like this. I dropped Robert onto the ground, as I pulled my scythe out of its holster. Robert let out a small cry, covering his face with his hands. I once again bent down to meet his gaze, putting my scythe to the side of me. "Hey it's gonna be alright. You won't feel a thing." I reassured him while patting the man on the shoulder. "Where will I go?" He asked me, he was about to die anyway so there's no harm in telling him.
"You my friend, are going to Hell." I chirped, gripping my scythe tightly. I stand up in one swift movement, Robert's gaze flickers around the alleyway. He was looking for a way out.
But there was no escaping death.
I bring my scythe down to meet the man's neck, I grimace as a horrible cracking sound escapes into the air. This was always the worst part of my job, I should let the others will do the rest.
Well looks like I can finally have that nap.
