I laid down on the cold stone floor, the shackles clanking as they hit the floor. It had been almost 3 years since I had seen the sunlight, I had been keeping a count of the amount of days.
"Three moons...What day is it?" I muttered to myself.
"Monday. The worst day of the week." The guard outside my cell chuckled.
"Will I ever get out of here?" I asked.
"Maybe but your mother really wants you to stay here. To be honest I think it's because she doesn't want you to challenge her for the throne." the guard replied.
"SPARROW!!!" a voice screamed.
"Yes your highness!" Sparrow yelled back.
"PREPARE MY DAUGHTER FOR EXECUTION!" she shouted.
"She'll be ready soon!" Sparrow sighed. "I'm so sorry about this kid."
I felt a tear slip down my face as Sparrow opened the door to my cell. She unclipped my bonds and slipped a metal muzzle over my snout. She took the chain that was around my neck and walked me out of the prison and into the middle of the arena.
"WELCOME SKYWINGS AND MUDWINGS. VISITING SANDWINGS. TODAY WE WILL SEE THE EXECUTION OF PRIN-TOPAZ THE SKYWING!!" the announcer yelled for all the dragons to hear. "LET THE EXECUTION BEGIN!"
"WAIT!!!! I'll fight for her!" Commander Hawk screamed. I looked over at him with sad eyes and shook my head.
"Fine! PERIL! GO KILL THIS IDIOT!" Queen Scarlet hissed. The flaming dragon flew down to the arena in front of Hawk.
"TALONS UP! TEETH READY! FIGHT!" the announcer yelled.
Peril lunged at Hawk with open talons ready to burn him to a crisp. Something inside of me lit up like a firework and before I knew it I was breaking through the chains and ripping off the muzzle. No one could stop me. I threw my body in front of Hawk before Peril could hurt him. My scales sizzled and a burning sensation flooded through my body.
"AGHHHH!" I cried out. Flames engulfed my body, the pain was unbearable.
"TOPAZ!" I heard Hawk scream. My vision turned black and the last thing I remembered before blacking out was large and comforting wings carrying me.
